Plaid and Plaid

When I was working on an idea for another Merry Monday, I re-discovered Perfectly Plaid, a wonderful stamp set that carried over from last year.  This cute set of 4 Christmas trees and sweet greetings also coordinates with a perfect punch!  So what would be better than pairing Perfectly Plaid with plaid?

Do you see what I did?  Pairing the tree from Perfectly Plaid with the Plaid Tidings patterned paper?  Genius, right?  😁

There's also an embossed  layer - the Whisper White is cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies and then embossed with the Evergreen Forest embossing folder.

Then there's that Gold Hoop - and inside the hoop I sponged some Shaded Spruce ink on the embossed trees for a little "spotlighting".

The greeting, from Itty Bitty Christmas, was stamped in Shaded Spruce and "flagged" with the Banners Pick-a-Punch, then layered over Gold Foil.

Plaid with plaid - and a perfect holiday card!

Two for Maddox

A friend of mine has commissioned me to make a set of 50 cards for Christmas presents.  She has a nephew who writes thank you notes, and she asked me to make him a set of personalized notecards.  Today I'll share two of the designs I created just for him.

I asked about his likes/dislikes, and found that, just like typical 10-year old boys, he loves Legos, sports, the color blue and Minecraft.  So with this in mind, I came up with these:

I made one of these cards many years ago for my oldest son, Evan, another Lego fan.  He was an adult but still appreciated the card, so I decided this would be perfect for Maddox.

Overall this is a fairly easy card to make, EXCEPT for al those dots!  Each one is punched 3 times and layered together, then added to the color block.  And do you see the little white "swish" on each?  That really adds a touch of dimension.

The letters are cut with retired dies (Little Alphabet - a set I'll never get rid of!) and glued directly to the white panel.

And I like to make a coordinating envelope for each of the cards I'm making for my friend, so this one goes with the Lego card:

Now for another card, this one using "blue":

I really like the way this card came together.  I had seen a similar layout on a card by Brian King, using the Right Triangle stamps.  So I stamped two of the triangles, cut them with the coordinating Stitched Triangle dies and then mounted them to opposite corners of the Whisper White cardstock.

This time I used the wonderful Playful Alphabet dies to cut out the name.  Before cutting, I added some Foam Adhesive Sheets to the back of the Misty Moonlight cardstock, then cut the letters.  This allowed me to pop them up - such a cool option for added dimension!

And the coordinating envelope, with the corners stamped with another of the triangle stamps.

I almost wish I knew Maddox - maybe he'd send me one of these cards!

Which is your favorite?

Christmas Flowers

I don't know about you, but poinsettia flowers always make me think of Christmas.  They bloom between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and you'll find them all over during that month.  So when I saw the Poinsettia Place Suite from Stampin' UP! I knew that Christmas would soon be following.

Take a look at this beautiful suite:

Swaps

A favorite pastime for paper crafters is to swap cards with friends (and even with people we don't know).  It's always fun to see what other card makers have done with stamps, ink, paper and embellishments, and it's a great way to learn new techniques or to use products in a new way.

So when my Ink Master team wanted to swap as the August - December Mini Catalog made its debut, I was excited to see what everyone would come up with.  The only "rule" was that all cards must have at least one item from the new catalog.  There were 9 of us who got involved.  I showed you my card (you can see it here), and today I want to show you the rest that I received.  Please feel free to comment on your favorites; I know my team would love to hear what you have to say.

First we have Halloween cards:

Gail used the Plaid Tidings patterned paper, the Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch and the stamps from Festive Post- so cute!

Tani chose to go all elegant with the Magic in This Night patterned paper.  I love the Purple Posy touches and the Iridescent Pearls.

KKay used the Cobwebs embossing folder as a base, and stamped on her Magic in this Night paper with the Ghoulish Goodies stamps.

Some chose to highlight the beautiful autumn stamps and papers:

Ceresa's card has many pretty layers, all pulled together by the Gilded Autumn patterned paper on top.  I love the Gold-Embossed greeting and (difficult to see in the photo) the Forever Gold Laser Cut leaves!

Melanie popped up the punched acorns and leaves for a special detail.  The Basket Weave & Metallic Ribbon combo were the perfect addition to this pretty card.

Bonnie sponged her Stitched Leaves - gorgeous!  She also added touches of metallic - the die cut sprigs and the label behind her greeting, along with the Gilded Autumn patterned paper.

And then Christmas:

Crystal used a snippet of plaid along with the beautiful Evergreen Forest embossing folder on Brushed Metallic cardstock.  The colors (Shaded Spruce and Cherry Cobbler) are scrumptious together on Crumb Cake.

Jacque also used the Evergreen Forest embossing folder, this time on Silver Foil.  She also snuck in a piece of the Tasteful Textures patterned paper, and topped it all off with a gorgeous In the Woods die-cut tree.

And Gail was the overachiever with a second card, this time using the wonderful Moose punch on a fun-fold card:

I love these swaps, and hope you enjoyed them too.  I have such a talented team!
