A Card in a Box

As mentioned last week, my mom is recuperating from a broken hip (fortunately a "minor" break, if there is such a thing) and she is doing very well.  But she's 3000 miles away, so I had to send her some love.

This "card" fit into a slightly oversized envelope (which I made with my Envelope Punch Board!--gotta get one of these!).

I'm sure when my mom got this, she wasn't quite sure what it was...but wait for it:
Look what happens when you pick it up!  The beautiful "card in a box" opens up, and is ready for display.
It's actually quite easy to make, and once the box is put together, I just decorated with hand-snipped flowers.  So beautiful.

The back panel has space to write a note.
Such a lovely way to send special thoughts, and a "card" which the recipient will be happy to display.

I'll be including some instructions in the next few days; I made another one of these and will feature it with the directions, so stay tuned!  And if you're in the Davis, CA area, I'll be including this card in a special card class in April--this will be our Mother's Day card.  Watch for class information.

Can you say "Heavenly"?

While I was enjoying Stampin' UP's annual Leadership Conference in Houston, TX last week, I heard about a new product that is sure to make many of you tingle with excitement!

Stampin' UP is releasing a brand new product called Blendabilities.  These alcohol-based markers will be fantastic for watercoloring your creations.  They will come in packs of three, with three shades of the same color (light, medium and dark) and will be released in12 fabulous tints:
While I can't show you the actual product yet, this is a sheet demonstrating the colors/gradations for the sets to be sold.  A terrific addition to our line of products to help us get gorgeous results!  Pricing is fabulous too!  A set of three markers will be sold for just $12.95!  This is about half the price of those other markers out there for the same results...

Can't wait!  Word is they'll be out during the first quarter of 2014, so try to be patient!  More soon...

More Sale-A-Bration Sneak Peeks!

In my last post I introduced Sale-A-Bration, the best time of the year to purchase Stampin' UP items because you also get FREE stuff!

Sale-A-Bration starts January 28 (just one more week!) and for every $50 you spend on product (before shipping/tax), you get to choose one item from the Sale-A-Bration brochure.  Does it get better?  YES!  Because there is NO limit!  This is good for EVERY $50 you spend between January 28th and March 31!

So here is another sneak peek of one of the free items you can choose...
This is the Good as Gold card kit.  One of my personal favorites!  This terrific set comes with everything you need to create 8 cards.  So fun!
Love the gold envelope liner!
I decided to step up my cards with just a few extra supplies.  Adding a different ribbon and a brad gives my card a whole new look.  Love it!

Get Whale Soon

Every now and again I find I'm in need of a Get Well card.  Last week my mom tripped and fell, breaking her hip.  She's doing well (transferred to rehab and should be released in about 10 days) but is feeling a bit sorry for herself right now.  She lives 3000 miles away from me, so I'm trying to send her some love every few days.
I know this will brighten her day.  The adorable whale, from "Oh Whale", along with the clever sentiment, is added to the new Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards.  What an easy way to create!   These beautiful cards are pre-printed with five different designs on watercolor paper (you get 4 of each! for a total of 20 note cards) which come with Ivory envelopes.

And did you catch the sneak peek?  Those cute tiny banners are cut from Designer Series Paper using the coming-soon Banner Punch!  So easy!  And what's even better?  You can get this punch for FREE! during Sale-A-Bration, starting January 28th!  With every $50 order, you get to choose one FREE item from the wonderful Sale-A-Bration catalog!

What are you waiting for?  Contact me for your Occasions Catalog and your Sale-A-Bration brochure...and let's get creating!

Stampin' UP Leadership Conference

I just returned from the annual Stampin' UP Leadership Conference.  This year it was held in Houston, Texas.  I always look forward to this "beginning of the year" get-together of Stampin' UP's leaders, as it is a creative boost in the arm as well as motivates me to help my customers a have a great stampin' experience!  I get a super bag, free stamps (I won a Prize Patrol!) and see sneak peeks of new products (yippee skippee!).  I'll share lots of great stuff over the next few days...but first, a card.

This year I joined an organized swap, where 16 fellow demonstrators each created a card using a stamp set from the new Occasions Catalog (have you seen it yet?).  I chose "Just Sayin'".  I love the matching framelits!  There were many rules for this swap, but the quality of cards I received were great...I'll share another day.

Here was my swap (which, by the way, was well-received!):
I love Bermuda Bay and Basic Black, so this was my theme.   The new Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper is so fun!--full of great patterns and also uses Bermuda Bay and Basic Black.  The card is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" (standard size) in Basic Black.  My first layer is 4" x 5-1/4" of Bermuda Bay.  I used the Postage Stamp punch to create 12 Basic Black bases, and either embossed them or adhered Kaleidoscope paper using a 1" punch.  The sentiment was stamped using Staz-On Black, fussy cut, and then mounted on a black piece cut with the matching framelit and popped up with Dimensionals.  A Bermuda Bay bow was added with a Glimmer Brad.

What do you think?  A great way to showcase our new paper, AND use a new set!

I'll share more of the swaps I received over the next few days...as well as some of the sneak peeks!

Occasions Catalog Live Now!

Finally!  After waiting (and drooling) for over a month, our new Occasions Catalog has been activated!
Of course, as a Stampin' UP demonstrator I've had the luxury of pre-ordering my favorite items, and have been playing with them since the holidays.  In fact, I'm even using one of the stamp sets for my Leadership swap in Houston next week.

Are you ready?
You can even shop in your pj's!  Click here and your shopping spree starts now:

If you live in the Davis, California area, sign up for my monthly Card Club--a "no obligation" class where you will make 4 cards each month.  See my website (link above) for more info.  We'll be using items from this new catalog in our January and February classes.

Are You Sick of Gift Card Holders Yet?

Here's another idea for a gift card holder.  This one is unique in the way that it opens:
Looks pretty cute, but nothing special...
Oh, wait...it slides?
Oh, a card in a sleeve...but wait!  There's more:
It opens to reveal a pocket for a gift card.  Simple, effective, CUTE!

Cut your cardstock to 4-1/4" x 11".  Score at 4-1/4" and 9".  This will make a 2-1/2" pocket (use Sticky Strip to adhere the sides after first running through the Big Shot with a decorative embossing folder; you can do the top and the bottom flap separately if you want two designs!).  Decorate by adding a 4" x 4" piece of designer series paper, along with a pretty tag.

Your sleeve is 5" x 10" of designer series paper, scored/folded around your card.  But before adhering the edge with sticky strip, center the front over your card and punch with a decorative punch in the shape of the tag you want to use.  Then adhere the ends and slip over your card.

Finally comes the tag--stamp and punch your favorite tag and add "through the hole" in the sleeve, using Dimensionals.

Voila!  An adorable (and fairly simple) gift card holder that can be adapted to any occasion!
