Friend Like You

Sometimes a stamp set in a new catalog remains completely hidden to me.  I peruse the catalog and somehow miss it altogether.  Such was the case with Friend Like You (page 124 of the Annual Catalog).  Yep, just passed right over it.

And then I saw a sample on Pinterest and I had to go to the blog and find out what set that was.  I believe it was a card by Rachel Tessman;  I had to order the bundle.

And when I was experimenting with the dies I first played with the palm trees (remember this card?).  When cutting the palm trees, you cut it from the top piece of cardstock and layer over another piece (in this case I cut out of Pool Party and layered over Basic Black).

So when I started to play with the cattail die I did the same thing...but total FAIL!  And since I was using a beautiful piece of Pigment Sprinkled paper, I thought I ruined it.

But then I decided to try layering it on black again, and voila!  A gorgeous summer sunset emerged!  Color me happy!

This started as a piece of Watercolor Paper which I sprayed with water; then I sprinkled the Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody and Gorgeous Grape Pigment Sprinkles on it and watched the explosion of colors blend together.

Once dry, I cut the cattails, then layered it all on Basic Black and Melon Mambo cardstock.  All it needed was some little dragonflies (from the same dies) and the sentiment, stamped in Tuxedo Black.

Other than the slight messiness of the Pigment Sprinkles, this was a very simple card.  But absolutely gorgeous!  AND I have the cattails that I cut--gorgeous in hot pinks, oranges and yellows.  I'll have another card for you later this week to show you what I did with them.

Check out Friend Like You and the fabulous Friendly Silhouettes dies.  You'll be glad you did!

Using Designer Series Paper

Do you tend to hoard save your Designer Series Paper?  I do...

So here's a great template to use when you really don't want to use too much of your DSP:

Even though it looks like I've used a full panel of the Mosaic Mood Specialty DSP, I've really only used a 3-1/2" x 3-7/8" piece (usually I use at least 4" x 5-1/4").  By cutting it on a diagonal and "spreading" the middle, I can get 9 cards out of a 12" x 12" piece of DSP instead of only 6.  And who can tell the difference?

The DSP is layered on a piece of Garden Green cardstock, with a strip of Whisper White in the middle. I also ran a strip of Mint Macaron Textile Ribbon across the upper seam for some added texture.

I'm such a fan of the Well Said stamps and coordinating Well Written dies--they make adding sentiments so easy.  The dies even have these cute butterflies!

Save a little of your DSP by trying this template--you can create so many more cards to share the beauty of these gorgeous papers!

Sigh...

Sometimes what a person needs is a little recognition of tough times, along with a little humor.  And Back On Your Feet is a perfect stamp set to help during those times of need.

I love this little guy!

I decided, since the image is a bit small for the front of a card, to make a fun-fold with a smaller front panel.  This is a standard size card, 4-1/4" x 11", but scored at 1" and 6-1/2".  I forced the ends, one at a time, in a tag punch (mine is retired, but the Delightful Tag Topper punch is just right for this technique), centered it and punched the tabs.  Then I trimmed away the excess pieces on the top and bottom of the punched ends to create tabs for closing with a ribbon.

My turtle was stamped with Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and Soft Seafoam Stampin' Blends.

A square frame was created using two sizes of the Layering Squares dies.  The designer paper is Perennial Essence, and the card base is Mossy Meadow, with Crumb Cake accents.

I forgot to photograph the inside, but it says, "Hope you're back on your feet soon".  Adorbs!

This went to a friend who recently had knee replacement surgery; I hope she's back on her feet soon!

Don't forget that any $50 purchase before July 31st will snag you a $5.00 Bonus Coupon to be used in August.  Only a few more days to score!

You Always Deliver

Want to see a funny stamp set?  I love this:

Doesn't this put a smile on your face?

You Always Deliver reminds me of the UPS delivery person who brings all my Stampin' UP! orders.  And this time, he's bringing a box full of positive thoughts!  So cute!

Stamped in Tuxedo Black and colored with Stampin' Blends, this little guy is carrying a box of love.  Most of the hearts were stamped, but I punched a few with a retired punch, even cutting off the bottom of one to make it look like it's coming out of the box.

The colors used are Coastal Cabana and Calypso Coral, a color combination I got from the Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper.  I added in a little snippet of Bermuda Bay Mini Striped Ribbon on either side to finish it off.

This card was sent to a friend who recently had surgery; do you think it cheered her up?  😁
