Just the Paper

Today I have two more Sweet Candy Canes cards (are you sick of them yet?), but they only use the coordinating Sweetest Christmas Designer Series Paper. No candy canes on these cards! But you will see two different ways to use your paper, and these designs could be used with any patterned paper, for any occasion.

Paper scraps anyone?

Do you save all those little scraps of pretty paper as you cut the sheets into pieces for specific cards? I always end up with lots of odd-sized pieces. And I can't seem to throw any of it away! GAH!

Well, here's one design you can use over and over, for all of those unusually-sized papers. And it works in a vertical layout or horizontal, like this one.

Start with your card base, any color (here, Real Red) cut to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", and folded in half. Then you need a layer (here, Basic White) of any coordinating color, cut to 4" x 5-1/4". On this you will choose 4 scraps of DSP measuring (just be sure you choose papers with no "direction"):

3-3/4" x 2-1/8" (green dots here)
1-1/4" x 2-1/8" (the piece with candy canes)
1-7/8" x 1-1/2" (the striped piece)
3" x 1-1/2" (the red dotted piece)

Adhere them to your layer, and then to your card base.

Choose a label/tag for the greeting (I used one from Painted Labels) and layer it - I used the Layering Circle dies. Stamp your sentiment (mine is from Sweet Candy Canes) and embellish as desired (I only used some red Pearlized Enamel Effects to create little "jewels").

And that's it! A great way to use up your scraps and make a pretty card!

But wait! There's more:

Here's another fun way to create using mostly paper. Start with your card base (this card is 4-1/4" x 11" of Thick Basic White cardstock, folded in half) and add a layer of patterned paper (mine is from Sweetest Christmas, and is 3-3/4" x 5").

Then take a coordinating piece of patterned paper, 2-3/4" x 4" (candy canes, here) and using a die (I used the Layering Circles, but squares or rectangles work too), cut ONE HALF of the die on the edge of the paper. Tie a ribbon around the bottom and add it to your card front with Dimensionals.

Using a smaller circle, cut your greeting label, stamp it and use Dimensionals to "insert" it into the hole left on the larger piece of DSP. And decorate as desired.
