Merry Monday with Christmas Season

Time for another Merry Monday, and if you saw my last post (here) you might recognize something in this card:

See that Brick & Mortar embossed background?  When I was preparing my card packs for my Cards-by-Mail earlier this month, one of the cards used a brick-embossed background with a circle hole in it.  Well, while I was getting cards ready, somehow (not paying attention) I ran one of the pieces through the embossing folder facing the wrong direction - instead of a vertical card, I embossed it horizontally.

DOH! 😬

But I figured I would keep it around and after I got all my card packs in the mail, this piece was still sitting on my desk.  So...

Happy Accident!  I pulled out the beautiful Christmas Season Bundle and the Christmas To Remember stamp set and started to play.

I lined up the circle over my Thick Very Vanilla card base, and stamped the greeting with Cherry Cobbler ink.  Then I added a few of the pine boughs from Christmas Season.  Once the stamping was done, I adhered the Brick-embossed cardstock over the card base using Dimensionals.

The pinecones were stamped and cut with the Seasonal Labels dies (purchase the Christmas Season Bundle and save 10%), and then I stamped and cut the holly leaves/berries.  They were all added to the card front with Liquid Glue and Dimensionals.

I finished with some Simply Elegant Trim (in gold--there are two spools in the pack, one silver and one gold, perfect for the holidays) and some Sequins for Everything.

I'm so glad I had that DOH moment!  I couldn't be happier with this card, and will probably make more for the holidays.

What "happy accidents" have you had?

Floating Strips

Have you heard of the "Floating Strips" technique?  This is where you adhere strips of cardstock to a piece of Window Sheet (clear acetate) so when you add it to your card with Dimensionals it appears that your strips are "floating".  Look:

This is one of the cards we made in my August Card Club class, and it's so pretty!  We started with the piece of 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" Window Sheet and 10 quarter-inch strips of cardstock.  They were glued to the Window Sheet leaving a small space between each strip.

The card base is Very Vanilla Thick cardstock.  Then there is a piece of Very Vanilla that had a hole cut in the center using the Layering Circle dies, which was then embossed with the Brick embossing folder.  We added Dimensionals to the back of the brick-embossed cardstock and laid it over our Window Sheet so that it was centered in the circle.  Then it was added to the card base with Dimensionals.

A little greeting (from Beauty of Friendship) and some Stitched Leaves along with some Metallic Dots and a little bow finished our card.

Try the "floating strips" technique for something a little different.  I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Hello

What's not to love about a simple card?  This is one from my monthly Card Club, and I love it:

Lots of white space, a pop of color and a large greeting...simple and effective!

This is one of the four dies in the Floral Squares set.  Each is a 1-7/8" square with a floral silhouette in the center.  I cut a piece of Rainbow Glimmer Paper to place behind it, and it's just so striking!

A Thick Basic White base with a Basic White layer that has a Basic Black strip embossed with the "Dots" folder from the Checks & Dots set of embossing folders.  The greeting is from Biggest Wish, stamped in Tuxedo Black ink.

Simple...and effective!

What's your favorite kind of simple card?
