Happy Birthday, Evan!

My son had a birthday this week.  And I had to make him something special, so I turned to Guy Greetings.  Take a look:

This was a fun card to make, as he is SO into his tools!

The base is Basic Black, with a layer of Typset Designer Series Paper on top.  Then comes a piece of Very Vanilla, which is popped up on Dimensionals.  But here is what I did first:

• Stamp "Happy Birthday" from Guy Greetings in Basic Black Archival ink
• Stamp the tools in Basic Black, cut them out 
• Stamp the banner and cut it out
• Cut Little Letters in Basic Black and Very Vanilla

Time to layer it all on the card, and then add a few Basic Black Candy Dots.  And done!

The Wacky Watercooler Gang Celebrates Occasions!

Yes it's time for another blog hop of the Wacky Watercooler Gang.  This month we are all about celebrating occasions--and there are SO many to celebrate!  What's your favorite?

Our hop is circular; jump on anywhere and follow around to see what 11 artists have prepared this month.  You may have just come from Leanne Johnson's blog.  Leanne is new to our hop, and I'm so glad she has joined us!  Her creations are wonderful, don't you think?

A BIG occasion for me right now is knowing that I am expecting a new grandbaby--yippee!  My son and daughter-in-law are adding to their clan sometime in August, and I so look forward to a new little one in our family.  So here is the card I sent them to say "congratulations":

As soon as I saw Bear Hugs in the Occasions Catalog (with matching framelits!) I knew it had to be mine.  And this was perfect to welcome a new member of our tribe, especially when paired with the phrase from Suite Sayings (also in the Occasions Catalog):

My bears were all stamped and cut in record time; I embossed some Early Espresso card stock with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder and hand cut the "tree".  A hole was cut with the Ovals Collection Framelits, so a baby bear could be placed inside:

And of course a matching envelope (this is a large, square card), made easy with the Envelope Punch Board and the In Color Envelope Paper:

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to this Occasion!

Now, for another occasion we all celebrate (at least until we no longer want to):  Birthdays!  Here's a Party in a Box that can help a recipient be ready for three birthdays:

I saw this cute idea by another Stampin' UP! demonstrator who made a 3" x 3" box full of small cards.  I decided to cut this down a bit, and after a number of failed experiments, came up with a 1-5/8" x 3-1/4" box.  It's decorated with one of my favorite Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Catalog, It's My Party, and the stamp is from a brand new Sale-A-Bration (read  as "FREE") set called Party Pants.

And here is what this little party in a box holds:

I always send my customers thank you notes when they place an order, and here was a recent creation:

At first glance it may appear that I just stamped the "thanks" on Soft Sky and Basic Black cardstock, but I actually cut these out using the Greetings Thinlits Dies.  Then using the cut greetings and the negative spaces, I stacked them to create this card.

I started with a piece of Basic Black cardstock and using the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits I cut it with both the large and small frames.  This created a frame with an open center.

I put strips of Tear and Tape Adhesive along either edge on the back side, and carefully adhered only the ends of the letters and negative space strips.  I then backed the whole piece with some Soft Sky cardstock.

The black piece was then glued to Whisper White Thick cardstock cut to 4-1/4" x 11" and scored in the middle.

The sentiment, from Another Thank You, was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Soft Sky and I used my Hexagon Punch to flag the ends.  It was adhered over a strip of Silver Glimmer Paper and I scrunched up some Silver Thread on top.  I finished with some Soft Sky Candy Dots.

"CASE-ing" the Catalog

Do you know what CASE is?  In our stampin' world, we CASE cards designed by others when we see something we like.  CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything.

I've been admiring a card in the Occasions Catalog since it came out.  I had purchased all the supplies and got ready to re-create it for my grandson.  And then something happened!  I realized that I had used the designer series paper for my January card clubs and only had one piece left!  Uh-oh...need to be very careful.  This is the card I wanted to make (the one with the star, on the left):

I was trying so hard to get that yellow background right.

And I blew it!

Yes, I miscalculated my trimming and made it too small...ARGH!

So back to the drawing board.

I had another piece of the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack, so I ended up doing something different:

When you CASE a card, it doesn't always mean you copy it exactly.  In this case the layout was nearly identical, but there are subtle differences.  Can you spot them?

First, I stamped my Very Vanilla base using the constellation stamp from Going Global and using Delightful Dijon ink.  Then I cut my black constellation DSP and added it to my card front.

Using my Stars Framelits in two sizes, I cut the star from the DSP I was originally trying to use (that's called making lemonade out of lemons!) and I popped it up on thin strips of Dimensionals over a piece of (retired) Black Glimmer Paper.

The stamp was inked with Archival Basic Black ink; once stamped it was punched using the 1" circle punch.  And there's a time strip of Silver Glimmer Paper with notched ends (Banner punch).

I added a few stars from the Brights Sequin Assortment, using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  Then, with some matching DSP on my envelope (and another star cut from the same DSP on front) I was ready to send this to my grandson.

Try a CASE - and then add your own ideas to make it an entirely new card!
