Birthday Party Gift Card Holders

Round two of my Birthday Party (see Sunday's post) found my guests making gift card holders.  Again we used the same layout but made two cards--one for the conservative, all business person and one for the wild party-child!  See if you can guess which was which.

This fun layout is a card within a card.  That top, polka-dotted card is held closed by the "surprise" button at the bottom; pull it up and this is what the recipient will find:

The top, striped part is a pocket into which you can slip a gift card.

This card was made using It's my Party Designer Series Paper  (#140552) and Sahara Sand cardstock (#121043).  The striped gift card holder pocket uses the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (#138435), also in Sahara Sand.

Our second card uses the same paper stack, but Basic Black (#121045), Crushed Curry (#131199) and Melon Mambo (#115320) tell the story:

Woohoo!  It's party time!  Stamps used are BYOP (Buy Your Own Present) (#137159), Amazing Birthday (#134225) and Big News (#134015).

Lots of fun, and a special treat for the birthday girl or boy!

Birthday Month!

Another birthday in the household:  this time for my brother, Warren.
Warren and his lovely wife, Lynn, live about 90 minutes away from me, and my sister, Holly, with her husband, Kenton, live 6 hours away.  Yesterday we all got together to celebrate my brother's BIG birthday.  Holly and Kenton had driven up to my house Friday evening, and we all piled in the car early Saturday to make the 90 minute trek to my brother's...it was a surprise!  And surprise we did!  As we pulled up to the house, we all donned party hats, grabbed some "blowers" and jumped out of the car.  Warren, who had seen us from his kitchen window turned to his wife and asked, "Did we forget something?"  It didn't take long for him to realize he was just birthday-bombed!

We spent a lovely day reminiscing and enjoying each other before going out to a fantastic Italian dinner.  Then back to the house for birthday cake, before leaving for the trip home.  Just a wonderful day; I am truly blessed to have such a close and warm relationship with my siblings and spouses!

So of course I had to create a special card for my bro...I saw a shaker card using Washi tape to seal the edges and was intrigued.  However, my version is quite different (I used a lot of Dimensional edges to pop up my Window Sheet, and then Washi to cover the edges).  Take a look:

I wanted to use the large sentiment from Occasions 4 You, so I made a 3" x 6" card (start with a 6" x 6" piece of cardstock, scored and folded in half).  I put the Dimensional strips all the way around the edge and then dumped in lots of stars (I used the Star Border Punch on Basic Black, Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay and Silver Glimmer Paper to get a pile of stars).

Then I carefully laid a 3" x 6" piece of Window Sheet over the Dimensionals, sealing in the stars.  Then for the Washi Tape--I pulled out the Epic Day tape with the Basic Gray and White stripes, but found I didn't have enough--oh no!  Fortunately my stash revealed some left over Washi from the Holiday Catalog...to the rescue!  This was placed over the edges all the way around, effectively "sealing" the card.

I stamped the sentiment with Bermuda Bay ink, cut the banner shape and added a strip of Silver Glimmer Paper along the bottom.  I also stamped "Woohoo!" (from Big News) in Crushed Curry and hand-snipped it; this was attached to a little flat stick that I mashed into my Basic Gray ink pad.  All of this is popped up on top of the Window Sheet with Dimensionals.

I carried the Washi tape theme to the inside, as well as on the front of the envelope.

Needless to say, my brother liked his card, and it was a perfect ending to a perfect birthday!

Gift Decorating

I love to give pretty presents.  I tend to purchase all kinds of wrapping paper (LOVE double sided wrapping paper!), ribbon and gift bags.  I also like to create my own wrappings.

A recent Paper Pumpkin offering (and one of my favorites) came with gift bags to decorate.  I ended up buying the refill kits (as a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you have access to refill kits for purchase), so now I have a whole bunch of craft "shopping bags" to play with.

I pulled one of these out when celebrating a birthday.  Look:

Using the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum, I created a pocket on the outside of the bag.   This was decorated using Four Feathers, Borderettes, Burlap Ribbon (LOVE!), Blackberry Bliss Stitched Satin Ribbon, and the Autumn Wooden Elements

But wait!  There's more!

Because the vellum is "see through" I needed a fun card to go inside:

Using the File Tab Edgelits, I cut a piece of Naturals White cardstock, and stamped "Cheers!" from And Many More on the tab.  Then I made a mask (just used a rectangle die in the center of a piece of cardstock, placed the negative space of the mask over my card), and took my Aquapainter to scribble ink across the center (Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist and Mossy Meadow).  Then I stamped "it's your birthday" from Big News right over the color wash.

Once the card is inserted into the pocket, the color shows through, and the tab makes it easy to pull out.

Gotta go make some more bags!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

My Dad's 87th birthday was last week!  He jokes that he has no idea how he got that old...and you'd never know he is by looking at him.

I always make my cards for family, and I had lots of new toys to play with.  So this is what I created:

I loved the stamp set, Big News, when I first saw it.  Such fun phrases for all those special occasions.  So I used "it's your birthday" as a starting point, along with the wonderful Maritime Designer Series Paper (love!).  I carefully stamped the phrase in Versamark on Night of Navy cardstock, and embossed it using White Embossing Powder and my trusty heat tool.  This was layered on a slightly larger piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Next I made a banner using Whisper White and Real Red (run through the Stylish Stripes embossing folder), and added that to a piece of Real Red that was embossed with the Chevron folder.

In order to distress this piece, I lightly dragged a Whisper White craft pad over it, then cut out "D-A-D" using my new Little Letters framelits.  Punching out another piece of Maritime using the Banner punch, I added these with a bow of White Bakers Twine to create a mini banner.

The base of the card is Whisper White with the "sailors knot" DSP in Navy; all layers were added with Dimensionals.  Finally a little arrow was cut twice in White and Red, using the arrow from the Label Card Framelit.

Inside--more toys!
"enjoy the fuss" and the little candle are from Big News, while the Happy Birthday is from Occasions 4 You.  I used the Simply Scored board to score lines around the edge--I think embossed edges make such a nice addition.

And finally--an envelope.
The Envelope Punch Board makes it so easy to create envelopes for unusual-sized cards.  Maritime DSP made matching the card easy peasy!

Happy Birthday, Dad!  I love you!
