A Card Club Sneak Peek

If you attend my monthly Card Clubs and want to be surprised, stop reading here.  I'm going to show you one more card from my Class that Didn't Happen; when I showed this card to my club members, they all asked to make one.  So this will be one of my December Card Club cards:

Hmmm, black and silver for a holiday card?  I took a risk with this card, and everyone loved it.

Again, this card only uses Your Presents for stamps.  There's a Basic Black base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2") with a layer of Smoky Slate (4" x 5-1/4").  Then I took a piece of Whisper White (3-3/4" x 5") and started stamping the solid circle stamp in Smoky Slate ink, stamping off once or twice as I stamped.

A strip of Holidays Fancy Foil Designer Vellum was punched with the Banner Triple Punch and I added a (retired) gem (but  the Winter Wonderland Embellishments, available in the current Holiday Catalog, would make a perfect substitution), and the sentiment is cut using the Wonderful Wreath Framelits and Silver Foil Sheets.

I colored a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels with a black Sharpie marker and finished off my card.

Attend next month's class and you'll be making one of these.

Joyful Wreath

I love a blue Christmas.  Well, not exactly a blue Christmas; I mean who wants that?  But I do love using blue for Christmas cards.  See what I mean?

This was one of the cards created for my Only Christmas Cards party, and participants liked the color contrast (not just red and green!).

The Wondrous Wreath stamp set quickly made it to my "have to have it" list last July when I first played with it at Convention.  I loved the two-step stamping of the main wreath and the accent leaves.  And with the matching Wonderful Wreath framelits, it all came together beautifully.

This wreath was stamped in Marina Mist, and the second layer was stamped with Versamark.  It was then heat embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.  Finally, the Night of Navy berries were added.

Here's a hint when stamping the wreath--start by cutting out the inside of the wreath.  It's much easier to line up the wreath with the opening in the center.  And once you play with this a little, it's a cinch to stamp the second layer (especially since both the stamps and the framelits have "tabs" that you match up).

The card base is Night of Navy, with a thin layer of Marina Mist.  The Whisper White layer is embossed with the Filigree Frame embossing folder, and then a Tea Lace Doily becomes the base of the wreath.

Hard to see in this photo, "Joy" was cut from Silver Foil Sheets using one of the two words included in the framelits (there is also "Noel").  And we used Silver Foil Sheets to cut the bow.

A pretty card for a "blue Christmas".

A Christmas Card of a Different Color

I have to admit that while I usually make most of my Christmas cards using some shade of reds and greens, I occasionally like to mix it up a bit.  I've had a few "Blue Christmas" cards (here ) and some that are mostly greens (here).

But this time, I really took it to another level, and I'm still wondering if I like it.  Take a look:

Yes, it really is a black and white Christmas card.  I saw the idea (although it was all white, fewer layers and used red and green sequins) on Kimberly Van Diepen's blog (here) AND I happened to have a jar of black punched stars from another project that I made sitting on my desk.  I had been wanting to make a shaker card using the black and silver stars, so this seemed like a good place to start.

Using the "Joy" from the fabulous Wonderful Wreath Framelits dies, I ran it through my Big Shot with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I kept the "joy" cutout for another project, and am using the negative space for this card.

I then adhered a piece of Window Sheet to the back of the cutout.

My card base is Whisper White, 4-1/4" x 11" and scored at 5-1/2".  To this I added a piece of Basic Black, 4" x 5-1/4", but I cut out the middle so the Joy would be on top of a white background.

Then, using the edges (small, skinny pieces) of a sheet of Dimensionals, I made a frame to the Joy card stock piece would be popped up over the black layer.  Before adhering the joy layer, I dumped some of the black and Silver Glimmer Paper stars that I had punched with my Confetti Stars Punch on the card.  Then I carefully placed on my top layer, and voila!  A shaker card of stars!

I also, somehow, got a dot of orange ink (what?  Where did that come from--I was using black and white!) on the top front of the card!  Geez!  But as I always tell my class attendees--a "mistake" is not a "mistake"; it's an opportunity!  So I glued a few more of my black stars to the front...can't even see that silly dot of orange ink!

So what do you think?  An elegant Christmas Card?  Or is it just too dreary in black and white to send out this year?  Won't you leave me a comment and let me know?

What a Wreath!

So yesterday I introduced you to our beautiful new photopolymer stamp set, Wondrous Wreath.  See that post here.

I wanted to keep playing with this, but wasn't really ready for Christmas yet, so decided to focus on autumn (even though it's still in the 90's here!  Guess that's wishful thinking!).

Here's my card:
This is SO pretty in real life; my photo doesn't quite do it justice!

I first stamped the wreath with Tangelo Twist, layering on the Chocolate Chip second layer.  The berries were stamped in both Cherry Cobbler and Mossy Meadow, for a little more color.  My wreath was cut out using the matching Wonderful Wreath Framelits dies (so easy!).
I took some Burlap ribbon, cut the seam off one side, and pulled out three of the threads.  I used these to tie a bow, added a length of Gold Sequin Trim and added it to the wreath.

OK, now for the "mia culpa"--yes I used contraband!  A retired framelit from last year...but the word "thankful" just fit my  card, so I HAD to use it!
My wreath was popped up with Dimensionals on a piece of Mossy Meadow, which took a trip through my Big Shot with the Woodgrain embossing folder, inked with Mossy Meadow (just drag your ink pad lightly over the top).  Then I snipped one more piece of the Burlap ribbon and added my sentiment from Itty Bitty Banners

The card base is Chocolate Chip, and there's a middle layer of Gold Foil Sheets and a few individual gold sequins for some shine and glitz!

All products used (oh, except for the "thankful" thinlet--sorry) can be purchased here.

Wondrous Wreath

One of the first stamp sets I HAD to have out of the new Holiday Catalog is Wondrous Wreath.  This beautiful, multi-layer wreath is photopolymer (absolutely clear!), and has a matching set of framelits.  Stamping and cutting have never been so easy!

The first thing I made was a green and red wreath--Christmas, right?  Well, that's what the sample was for Convention.  So of course, I came home and tried to duplicate it (so simple!).  And I also wanted to play with one of my other new toys--the Gift Card Envelope and Trims Thinlets die...so here's the result of that effort:
How fun is that?  I started with a base of Crumb Cake and ran it through the Big Shot with the Gift Card Thinlet.  This made a really neat envelope, just perfect for a gift card.  I then stamped the front with Hardwood and some Chocolate Chip ink.

My wreath was stamped with Pear Pizzazz; the next layer is Garden Green, and then I added the Cherry Cobbler berries.  Cut it out with the framelits, and added the Cherry Cobbler bow (die also included in the set).  I colored a Rhinestone Basic Jewel with my Daffodil Delight Blendabilities to add a little bling.  And last came the beautiful "Joy"--also part of the framelit set, cut out using Gold Foil Sheets.
Here's the back--I chose to close my envelope with two of the new Gold Basic Metal Buttons and a piece of Gold Bakers Twine.

Someone will be the lucky recipient of a special gift card...
