Barb's Party

Barb was a hostess the other night and we had a great party!  (Why weren't you there?)
She had asked for "something Christmas" so it wasn't very hard for me to come up with a card using my new fav holiday set, Joyful Christmas.  This beautiful stamp sets the tone of the season with a gorgeous poinsettia just perfect for embossing.  Lookie here:

 Is that not gorgeous?
We added a little bling by coloring Rhinestone Basic Jewels with a red Sharpie marker--such a neat trick!

And finished off our card with the Thinlets Expressions "Merry" in Gold Foil cardstock!  Just stinkin' fabulous!

But wait...there's more!  Everyone got to make a Goodie Bag and learned how to make a bat from our Butterfly punch:

And we finished our evening with my favorite card from Convention, using Gorgeous Grunge and Hello Lovely:
Even the envelope was stamped to match.

Want to host your own party and make goodies like this?  Get a few friends together and I'd love to create something special just for you.  Don't live locally?  No problem; we can do a "Party by Mail", where you and your friends place orders on-line and I send you samples and instructions to make your projects.  Can't get any easier than that!

Still Christmas in August?

Yes, I'm still creating Christmas cards in August...why?  What better time to decide what to use for my annual holiday greetings and get ready to order my supplies.

So here's another one, using the Starburst Technique:

I'm a fan of the Season of Style Designer Series Paper (#132340, $10.95) and chose a few patterns for my card--it's SO nice when everything coordinates!  I also ran some Old Olive card stock (#100702, $6.95) through the Big Shot (yes, you really do NEED this) (#113439, $99.95) with the Argyle embossing folder (#127750, $7.95).  Each 4" strip was cut on the diagonal, and then adhered to a piece of scrap paper.  Then a strip of the Cherry Cobbler 3/4" Chevron Ribbon (#130012, $8.95) was added to the bottom before adhering the piece to an Old Olive card base.  Wishing You (w: #131748, $14.95; c: #131751, $11.95) was stamped using Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Write markers and paper-snipped to a banner shape; Basic Rhinestone Jewels (#119246, $4.95) add just the right amount of bling.

What do you think?

Christmas in August?

Hi Stampin' Friends, I'm back after a few days absence while caring for my dog (he had surgery).  He's doing well, although it will be long recovery ("knee" surgery).
But I finally got upstairs to do some stampin' and here's the first of a few projects I've been working on.

This unique "shaker card" idea was presented at the Stampin' UP annual convention in July.  I decided a Christmas shaker would be fun, and this is the result.
The card base is Cherry Cobbler, with a layer of Crumb Cake, run through the Stylish Stripes embossing folder.  Cherry Cobbler 3/4" Chevron Ribbon is tied in a knot and wrapped around the Crumb Cake layer.

The "shaker" is made with Card Stock Vellum over a piece of Crumb Cake, and wrapped with the fantabulous Season of Style Designer Washi Tape.  Haven't used it yet?  Whatever are you waiting for?  This fun tape is easy to tear and if you happen to place it crooked, it's easy to remove and re-place.

I punched lots of stars, Christmas trees and Ornaments using the trio punches and placed them inside, sealing up the last edge with Washi.  An interactive card!

Stamps:  Wishing You (w: #131748, $14.95; c: #131751, $11.95)
Ink:  Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Write Marker (#119681, $3.50), Gumball Green Stampin' Write Marker (set of 5 In colors, #13120, $14.95)
Paper:  Cherry Cobbler (#119685, $6.95), Crumb Cake (#120953, $6.95), Very Vanilla (#101650, $8.50), Card Stock Vellum (#101856, $6.50)
Goodies:  3/4" Chevron Ribbon (cherry cobbler) (#130012, $8.95); Season of Style Designer Washi Tape (#132155, $4.95), Decorative Label Punch (#120907, $16.95), Dimensionals (#104430, $3.95); Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder (#132174, $7.95); Big Shot (yes, you really do NEED one of these!) (#113439, $99.95)

Scrapbooking my Grandson

As mentioned in Sunday's post, yesterday was my daughter's birthday.  She and her husband brought their son to visit for the weekend, which was such a joy!  They live about 400 miles away, so I don't get to see my grandson very often.  He's now almost 4 months old and we got to play all weekend.  My daughter-in-law brought my other two grandsons (2 1/2 and 9 months old), and we had a grand time.  How blessed I am to be able to spend time with these boys!

Nathan (the youngest) is in a day care which asks families to provide a scrapbook page about the child.  My daughter was struggling with a concept, so she brought her photos and we had some fun putting together a page.

My daughter really wanted the page to reflect "boy"!  Her husband has three girls and this is his first son.  She sifted through my stamp collection and settled on "I Dig You" (retired, but one of my favorite little-boy sets), and we chose bright colors--Taken With Teal, Green Galore (both retired, sorry) and Pumpkin Pie.
The dump truck and earth mover were colored with Stampin' Write markers, stamped on Whisper White and cut out.  The "earth" is Early Espresso, torn to look like hills.  The photos were laid out like a "family tree" starting with grandparents at the top, parents in the middle, and sisters next, with Nathan across the bottom.
Like scrap-booking?  I have lots of ideas for layouts and supplies to make it happen.  Stampin' UP also has a wonderful product, My Digital Studio, for those who prefer digital scrap-booking or hybrid pages.  See my website/on-line store (priscillastamps@stampinup.net) for more information and ideas.

Beach-y Birthday!

So today is my daughter's 30th birthday!  Where did THAT time go?  I can still remember the day (early morning) she was born.  After my husband passed out while I was in labor, I delivered a beautiful baby girl (yes, my hubby recovered in time, and that's another story).  I got just what I wanted, but throughout my pregnancy my doctor kept telling me she was a "he" (we didn't have ultrasounds then, so imagine my joy when the doctor announced it was a girl!).

Aly is a beautiful young woman, who just made me a Grammy again (her first, my third), giving birth to Nathan (now 3 months old).

So of course, I HAD to create something special for her...how about this?
Setting the stage with Island Indigo and Soft Sky, along with Coastal Cabana, Strawberry Slush and Crisp Cantaloupe.  You can almost taste it!

But (wait for it):
How fun is that?  I turned the Pop 'n Cuts label insert upside down and it makes a "table".  I have been thinking about this for about a week, and had an idea in my head to make a Caribbean Vacation Birthday Celebration.
Drinks from Happy Hour were stamped and fussy cut, and attached to a strip of Window Sheet, to pop up from the table.  The cake was stamped from Best of Birthdays, colored with markers and cut out, as was the present from the same set.  I rubbed my Real Red Classic Ink pad on my Stripes embossing folder and ran the label through in one direction; then repeat the process and turned the label 90 degrees.  The burlap ribbon was fringed to make the grass skirt, and the palm tree was hand cut and run through the Chevron embossing folder; leaves punched with my oval punch were snipped and added with glue dots.
Crumb Cake "sand" was stamped with Gorgeous Grunge and a Happy Hour "cheers", and then I added a few of my hand-made shells (Simply Pressed Clay).

I hope she likes her mini vacation!

My sister and brother-in-law are celebrating 31 years of marriage this week, so a very special anniversary card was in order.  This is the result:
Did I just hear you say, "What's so special about that?"  Well...lookie here:

Cards to "Flip" For!

Have you ever played with an interactive card?  Stampin' UP has a terrific new way to create cards that you'll "flip" for--Thinlits Card Dies cut and score to create a card that flips in just one step.

Check this out:
Here's the card as you first take it out of the envelope.
And then:
It FLIPS!  Such fun!  And the dies include some wonderfully cool elements to dress up your card--phrases (like the "hi" on my card here), arrows, chevrons, banners and punches--your creativity has just exploded!  There's a Label Thinlit and a Circle Thinlit--You'll love 'em both!

Want to give this a try?  Come on over to my website and get it now!  (Must have a Big Shot, or similar die-cutting machine to use these...what?  You don't have one?  You REALLY NEED one of these!).

Happy Birthday, Sarah!

Today is my daughter-in-law's birthday.  Sarah is a teacher, and I wanted to make her a special card. This was the result:

This is the "chalkboard" technique (stamping on black cardstock and embossing with white embossing powder--ALWAYS use an Embossing Buddy!, then rubbing on a little white ink to mimic chalk dust.  How cute is that?  And I made the card into a little chalkboard, adding woodgrain-stamped paper strips to look like an easel.

Of course you HAVE to have a birthday banner, right?
Stamps:  Best of Birthdays, Woodgrain (w: #128763, $17.95, c: #127808, $13.95)

Sunshine?

Sunburst cards have been making the rounds lately, and I decided I needed to try one.  I've got a friend who has been in the hospital for several weeks, and thought she could use a little ray of sunshine.  So here is my card:
This is a fairly easy technique; you just need four pieces of 1-1/4" x 4" paper (I used two from the Brights Paper Stack (#130134, $21.95) and two pieces of Daffodil Delight that I ran through two different embossing folders.  Cut them in half, corner to corner to make long triangles, and add them to a piece of scrap paper, starting in the center.  They'll hang over the sides, so once all the pieces are adhered, turn it over and trim, using paper snips.
Add this piece to a card front; my sentiment  from Express Yourself (earn it free!) was punched with the Word Window Punch and placed atop half of a 1" circle punched from Daffodil Delight.
I also dressed up my envelope with another piece of the Designer Series Paper--won't that be a nice surprise?

Stamps:  Express Yourself
Inks: Night of Navy (#126970, $5.95)
Paper:  Daffodil Delight (#119683, $6.95) and Whisper White (#100750, $8.50) with the Brights Paper Stack.
Goodies:  Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon (#125583, $6.95), 1" circle punch (#119868, $12.95), Word Window Punch (#119857, $15.95).

Convention Swap

I love to decorate gift bags!  So I joined a great swap at the Stampin' UP Convention, held last month.  We were to decorate the 5x7" size bags for various occasions--I chose the Christmas swap.

My bag has many layers and textures and features the beautiful new "Season of Style Designer Series Paper" from the Holiday Catalog (#132340, $10.95).

I used the Deco Labels Framelits (#130102, $24.95) and the Big Shot (don't have one?  You NEED one of these!), and ran the Whisper White layer through the Square Lattice Embossing Folder (#119976, $7.95).  The "gifts" were cut/punched from the DSP, and decorated with the gorgeous new Silver 1/8" Ribbon (#132137, $4.95).  I also added a strip of 1-1/4" Burlap Ribbon (#132140, $7.95) which is the perfect vintage touch!

Since the bag needed a gift tag, I copied the gift stack using the Wishing You (w: #131748, $14.95, c: #131751, $11.95) stamp set and cut out using the Chalk Talk Framelits (#129983, $24.95).

I have ONE gift package ready to go...

One Bag, Two Ways

Ready for more cute gift-packaging ideas?  How about these?
The Tag-A-Bag Gift Bags (#131370, $3.95) come 10 to a package.  These sweet bags are easy to dress up, and perfect for little gifts and treats (they are food safe).
The bag on the left was gussied up with a ribbon and a layer of tags using Old Olive card stock (to make a banner), Silver Glimmer Paper (cut with a circle punch) and a stamped sentiment from the Hello Lovely stamp set (w: #130240, $32.95, c: #130243, $24.95).  It holds 4 note cards and envelopes.

The other bag is a step up--with a few score lines and snips, this gusseted bag is perfect for treats and small treasures.  It has a tag made from the Tag-A-Bag Accessory Kit (#130153, $7.95), which has everything you need to decorate your gifts:  10 large base tags, 10 medium builder tags, 3 colors of Bakers Twine, 40 Stampin' Dimensionals, 10 mini clothespins and 5 Smoky Slate self-adhesive strips.  A splash of 3/8" Ruffle Stretch Trim in Coastal Cabana and you're done!

With their cool Chevron print, they are the ideal presentation for a little surprise!

Go ahead...Make my day!

Need a simple note to tell someone you are thinking about them?  How about this?
Similar to one demonstrated at the Stampin' UP Convention last month, I stamped a Whisper White layer with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp that looks like skid marks (are you tired of this set yet?  Too bad--it's one of my new favs!) in Strawberry Slush and Crisp Cantaloupe inks.

This beautiful butterfly was cut from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die and the Big Shot (don't have one of these?  You REALLY need one!).  I used a piece of chipboard covered in Whisper White cardstock, then stamped the Gorgeous Grunge stamps using Coastal Cabana, Strawberry Slush and Summer Starfruit inks.  A sliver of Silver Glimmer Paper and a punch of Strawberry Slush with a Basic Jewels Rhinestone finishes off the card.

Stamps:  Gorgeous Grunge (w: #130514, $24.95, c: #130517, $17.95); A Dozen Thoughts (w: #131056, $26.95, c: #131059, $18.95)
Inks:  Strawberry Slush, (#131178, $5.95), Crisp Cantaloupe (#131176, $5.95), Summer Starfruit (#126991, $5.95), Coastal Cabana (#131175, $5.95)
Paper:  Strawberry Slush (#130023, $8.95), Crisp Cantaloupe (#130021, $8.95), Whisper White (#100730, $8.50), Silver Glimmer Paper (#124005, $4.95)

By the Seashore

Many of you know that I come from the East coast and visit Cape Cod twice a year.  I think that's why this stamp set, By the Tide (w: #131910, $27.95; c: #129120, $19.95) is near and dear to my heart.  I love the seashore feel of the coral, shells and seahorse.
Coincidentally, while surfing the web last week, I came across a tutorial for making your own molds for the Simply Pressed Clay, and discovered a way to create shell molds.  Wow!  I started dreaming about a sea-inspired card...and look what happened--

I embossed the coral using White embossing powder on Marina Mist cardstock, which I then sponged with Marina Mist ink.   Gorgeous Grunge was stamped on a small piece of Crumb Cake and torn to resemble the sandy bottom of the ocean.  The fish was stamped in Smoky Slate and fussy-cut, popped up on Dimensionals.  The greeting from A Dozen Thoughts was also embossed in white...but it still needed something...Shells!

So I made a few shells from a hand-made mold, and voila!  A sea-scape.  Like it?  Please let me know.

Stamps:  By the Tide; A Dozen Thoughts (w: #131056, $26.95; c: #131059, $18.95)
Inks:  Marina Mist (126962, $5.95) , Crumb Cake (#126975, $5.95), Versamark (#102283, $7.50)
Paper:  Smoky Slate (#131202, $6.95), Basic Gray (#121044 ($6.95), Marina Mist, (#119682, $6.95), Crumb Cake (#120953, $6.95)
Goodies:  White Embossing Powder (#109132, $4.75), Heat Tool (#129053, $29.95), Dimensionals (#104430, $3.95), Mini Glue Dots (#10383, $4.95), Simply Pressed Clay (#130685, $6.95)

Take a little vacation, and dream about the sea...

Hello Friends,

Time for a look at one of my favorite new items from the Holiday Catalog, the Chevron Border Punch (#132154, $21.95).

This hefty punch is a go-to must have for trendy designs and masculine cards (and we all struggle with those, huh?).

Although a little difficult to see in the photo, I punched the border from the Basic Gray layer and placed some Coastal Cabana Core'dinations behind it.  Then I took the punched pieces (why waste them?) and adhered them, continuing the pattern.  The middle layer of Coastal Cabana was run through the Big Shot (don't have one?  You NEED one of these!) with the Chevron Embossing Folder.
