A Birthday Banner

Last week I was invited to a birthday party for my neighbors' three-year-old daughter.  We've known this couple since they were first married, having purchased a home down the street from us.  And we have welcomed little Scottie since the day she was born.

I always make a special card for her, and this year I decided to try something a little different  - a "banner card".

Hard to fit it all in in one photo, so hang on...I'll show you the individual panels in a sec.

Using the Party Banners dies made this a cinch!  I used the largest banner, cutting it in four colors for the base.  And I used the little corner die to make the holes to attach them together (it fits inside the corners of the die, making the perfect hole).  There is also a "reinforcer" die to cut small circles to adhere over the holes for extra strength.

Then I had a blast decorating:

Every time I cut letters using the Mini Alphabet die (cuts the entire alphabet in one pass) I save the left--over letters.  So I pulled out my box of letters and found all the ones I needed!  Easy!  My retired Balloon Punch made the balloons, and I used the centers of the "reinforcer" dies to create the dots.  Fun!

Now I'll never get rid of my Large Numbers dies...or my old Star punches!

I was just able to squeeze in the letters for "birthday"!

And of course, it had to be personalized!

And then I had to put it in an envelope, but I didn't have one to fit.  So I created a small box:

The box didn't last too long (it WAS a 3-year old trying to open it 😁) but her mom rescued the banner.  She's going to hang it in Scottie's room until next year!

The Party Banners are available in my Online store.  They are extremely versatile due to the sheer number of dies in the set (and the various sizes!).  I'm sure you will get years of fun projects out of them!

A Banner Box

Have you seen the new Party Banner dies?  They are awesome!

This set of 14 dies (does not count the extra "corners" and "grommets" dies) ranges in size from 1-1/4" x 1-3/4" to 5-1/4" x 7".  If you like to create decorative banners, these are for you!

But what else can you make?  I previously showed a card that I made with the dies; see it here.  And today I'll show you another item - a box that holds 4 handmade cards:

A customer recently purchased the Poppin' By bundle (stamps and coordinating dies) and I wanted to make her a thank you gift.  So I created the banner box using the same set and included 4 cards showing the versatility of the stamps and dies.  I'll show you the cards over the next few days (yes, you'll have to come back to see them 😄), but let's look at this cute box.

I started with a template:

I used Real Red cardstock to create the box, then cut two Real Red banner pieces with the largest Banners die.  I also cut two more smaller ones in Basic White.

The banner pieces are just adhered - upside down - to the box front and back, extending about 1/4" on either side of the box.  Placing them upside down gives you the "points" on the top where you can add ribbon handles.

Then it was time to decorate.  Since my customer had purchased Poppin' By, I chose that set to decorate the front.

This came out so cute, and she was thrilled to get some card ideas that she can create at home.

The Party Banners dies and the Poppin' By bundle can be found in the OnLine Exclusives right now!  But these items are only available while supplies last, so don't delay; be sure to pick them up before it's too late!

Party Banners

Have you seen the new Party Banners dies?  Wowsa!  SO BIG!  They are perfect for creating banners of differing sizes, but they can also make cards.  Wanna see?

I recently participated in a card swap with demonstrators around the country.  I wanted to use the dies to make a card, so I started experimenting.

Here's my first try:

I made a shaker card incorporating the Party Alphabet dies with the Party Banner dies.  Although I liked the way it came out, it was a lot of work to line up the "happy BIRTHDAY" from Choose Happy under the cut-out letters.

So on to sample 2:

I kinda thought I was on to something here - cutting the banners in three coordinating colors and adding a cut-out in the center to feature a stamped image from Encircled with Love.  But it seemed to be missing something...

So one more try (it's only paper, right? 😒).  This time I chose a different image from Encircled with Love, one with a bolder background.  I stamped it in Pretty Peacock ink, and cut the banners with Pretty Peacock, Lost Lagoon and Pool Party for a pretty monochrome look.

Each layer has a hole in the center - I used graduated sizes of the Stylish Shapes dies to cut them, laying my stamped image right inside the smaller hole.  The layers are popped up on Dimensionals to lift them above the stamped image.

And did you note the embossing on the Pool Party layer?  One of the Glass & Gardens embossing folders (there are two in the package) created this pretty detail.

And finally, the leaves on the front to coordinate with the leaves on the stamp, along with the tiny flowers - cut with the Impressions Abloom dies.

Sometimes it takes awhile to get just the card I want out of my head and into my hands...and I usually succeed, even though I may go through a few iterations first.  Does that happen to you?
