A Christmas Wish

One last holiday card to wish all my friends and blog readers a Merry Christmas:

We made this at a special, "Christmas Cards Only" class earlier this month.  It was a favorite, due to the peaceful, calm colors and lots of silver.

The branches and sentiment from the Embellished Ornaments set were stamped in Versamark ink and heat-embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.

Using a mask (I cut the outline of the ornament using the Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies on a piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock, which we laid over our card front), we sponged Soft Sky and Lost Lagoon inks through the mask.  When the mask was removed it left a beautiful background for the silver cut-out ornament.

The ornament was cut out using Silver Foil paper, and adhered carefully using tiny drops of glue from the Fine Tip Glue Pen.

Then we mounted the white layer on a thin layer of Lost Lagoon, and to our card base of Soft Sky.  Soft and serene...

Wishing you all a very happy holiday!

How to Give a Gift Card

Here's a gift card holder that doesn't quite look like a gift card holder:

My husband bought a larger-than-usual gift card and it wouldn't fit in my normal packaging.  So I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits dies as inspiration to create my own bag (without using a die!  What?  Really?)

Using the Merry Moments Paper Pack, I took two sheets of the 6" x 6" paper.  I needed a bag that was 4" wide, so I scored 1" from either edge on one of the sheets, and then cut the other piece to 4".  I also trimmed an inch off the bottom of the 4" sheet.  Then I ran both of them through my paper trimmer with the Small Scallop Rotary Cutting Blade to make the little scalloped top.

I simply folded in the two scored sides of the larger piece of paper, and then adhered the smaller piece to the back.  After folding up the flap it became a bag!  Then I just had to decorate.

Using the Delicate Ornament Thinlits Die, I cut a Silver Foil Ornament and then a Cherry Cobbler embellished one, and layered them on the front.  The "merry" is from the Christmas Greetings die, also cut in Silver Foil.

A few banners (I used the Triple Banner Punch) and some Silver Sequins were added, and the gift bag was done.

But I told my husband to please buy normal-sized gift cards from now on--so much easier to use the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies!

So what do you think--cute?

Christmas Card Class

I had an idea and decided to make it happen.  Does that ever happen?  Not often!  LOL  I think about ideas, and then talk myself out of why it's good.  Like taking walks when I'm tired at work, or eating the healthy salad instead of the loaded-with-calories sandwich (and cookie "for only 99 cents!).  But this time I actually followed through!  Wowsa!!

I'm hosting three months of Christmas cards, using only one to two sets each month.  I want to show the versatility, AND show my customers that they don't have to spend alot to make very different cards, using just one (maybe two) stamp sets.  So my September class used the beautiful Embellished Ornaments along with the Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies.  I also showcased the Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper.  And here are the cards we created:

First up  was a square card with a special opening in the center.  The gorgeous ornament was stamped with Lost Lagoon ink and hand cut with Paper Snips.  Then we cut a Silver Foil ornament using the framelits to place behind the stamped one.

The "merry" was cut using Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies; only one half of the ornament and the greeting was adhered to the left side of the card so that it could open.

This card also used Rhinestone Basic Jewels  and 1/8" Silver Ribbon.

Then we made this:
Similar to a card previously posted here, we used the bokeh technique for the background.  The ornaments were cut with Silver Foil and "hung" with Silver Cording Trim.  "peace" was cut with the Christmas Greetings Thinlits, once from our bokeh effect cardstock and again using Coaster Board.

The "peace"s were pushed back inside the cut out to create a very subtle, raised sentiment.

For the next card (a total CASE of Mary Fish), we used the fabulous Red Foil Sheets:

Simplicity at it's best, this card uses Whisper White Thick Cardstock as the base, with a layer of the Red Foil on top.

The top layer of Whisper White is cut using the framelit, and the cut piece is adhered to the red foil sheet.  Then the top layer of Whisper White is popped up with Dimensionals.  A beautiful card.

And finally, some fun:

A shaker card using the Season of Cheer DSP with a cut out using the ornament that looks like a Christmas light.  The background is Hello Honey, embossed with the Lucky Stars Embossing Folder.

Our shaker card was filled with lots of stars punched with the Confetti Stars Border Punch and Gold Sequins.

Wish you had come?  Well don't fret; I'm holding my next class on Friday night.  We'll be using Your Presents along with Holidays Fancy Foil Designer Vellum and Merry Moments Designer Series Paper Stack.   Attendees who place a minimum order earn a half-price or FREE class.  Watch for an e-mail invitation (or contact me for your invite!).

Thanks for stopping by!

A Peaceful Christmas Card

I'm really lovin' the new Embellished Ornaments and Delicate Ornaments Thinlits Dies.  They come in a bundle (gotta love that 15% savings) and are worth every penny!  I was playing the other night, wanting something peaceful and pretty.  How's this?

This card uses the "bokeh" technique - see those circles in the background?  They are white (and in this case, silver) highlights.  "Bokeh" is an effect that photographers use to create soft, out-of-focus backgrounds, and I think I nailed it!

My background was a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I began by sponging Cucumber Crush ink in gentle swirls, all over the paper, but leaving areas white.  Next I layered on some Night of Navy ink using the same technique.  I was sure to begin my sponging off my cardstock, on a piece of scrap paper so that my ink was not too dark.

I then took a stencil (homemade from a piece of Window Sheet, with a few different sizes of circles punched in it), and using Craft White ink and a Sponge Dauber, I inked on some white circles.  Now this is where I went "out of the box" - I then took some silver ink (retired) and lightly sponged it over a few of my white circles.  This just added a little extra shimmer.

Background complete, I took the Christmas Greetings Thinlits dies and cut "peace" out of the front of my card.  I was sure to save all the little pieces that fill in the "p", "e"s and "a".  Then I adhered my background to a piece of Cucumber Crush.

I also cut two more of the thinlit using Coaster Board.  Then I adhered all three "peaces" (no pun intended; well maybe it was) stacked on top of each other, and nestled it down inside the cut out part on the card front.  I carefully added in the cutout pieces so all you see is a slightly elevated, and very subtle, "peace".

The ornaments are cut using Silver Foil Sheets - gorgeous!  I backed them with Night of Navy  and Cucumber Crush and popped them up on Dimensionals.  Little pieces of Silver Cording Trim were threaded through tops and wrapped over to the back of the card.  The card was adhered to a Night of Navy card base.

"Peace"ful...

Are You Ready for the Holiday Catalog?

Just two more days and we'll be able to order from the fabulous Holiday Catalog!  As a Stampin' UP! demonstrator, I had the ability to order early, and order I did!  I've been playing with new toys, and will be showing you some stampin' goodness this week.  I'll also list out my Ten Favorite Things in case you like what I'm showing.

First up:  Gorgeous Papers!

OK, you seriously HAVE to get online first thing Tuesday morning and get some of these GORGEOUS Red Foil Sheets!  I've long been a fan of the Gold Foil and Silver Foil, but this Red is the bomb!  So shiny and beautiful!  This stuff will fly out the door at the Stampin' UP! distribution center--get it before it's gone.

Everything on this card is new.  The base is a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock, scored at 5-1/2" and folded in half.  Then there is a 4" x 5-1/4" layer of Real Red Envelope Paper...what's that?  Did I just say Real Red Envelope Paper?  Yes I did!  (Do you see the red envelope by my card?)  Yes, Stampin' UP! has released a companion to the wonderful In-Color and Neutrals Envelope papers, and this is just perfect for the holidays.

But I digress...After the layer of Envelope Paper is a layer of Whisper White cardstock.  This measures 3-7/8" x 5-1/8".

I added two thin strips of Holidays Fancy Foil Designer Vellum on either side.  These are only 1/4" wide x 5-1/8" but add such a shiny touch.

And now for the fun!  I used the new Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies in two sizes to cut the ornaments.  For one I used the Gold Foil Sheets and the other is from the Red Foil.  The dies even cut the little hanging thingy on the tops of my ornaments.  Are they not gorgeous?!?

My gold one is glued flat with Two-Way Glue.  I threaded some new Gold Cording Trim through the top (it's folded over the back and glued down with a Mini Glue Dot).  The red ornament is popped up on extremely thin strips of Dimensionals.

Finally comes the "merry", cut with my Big Shot and Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies.  No stamping at all on this card.

But if you really need to stamp, there is a matching stamp set, Embellished Ornaments.  Pop back in later this week to see what I've cooked up with that set.  So easy to create beauty when you have wonderful stamps and matching framelits!

So are you ready?  Place your order early for these gorgeous papers and dies!  Too good to miss!

All items can be ordered here on Tuesday, September 1.
