Pretty Paper

I've often said that pretty paper can really "make" a card!  And here's another example of that:

The special release Delightful Floral, available now, is one of these beautiful papers.

With pretty prints on one side and gorgeous water painted solid color on the other you'll be able to coordinate these sheets with so many card stocks and stamps.

I chose the pretty leaf background in Pretty Peacock and Parakeet Party.  It was easy to put these two colors together (one of my favorite combinations right now!).

And I realized that the leaves from Cottage Wreaths is nearly the same shape as those in the background paper.  Stamped in Parakeet Party with an overlay of Pretty Peacock and cut with the Country Wreath dies, it's layered on a piece of Pretty Peacock that is the back of the leaf pattern DSP.

This paper is only available while supplies last.  Check out the Online Exclusives through my online store and pick up a pack before they're gone!

A Summer Wreath

When I first saw the Cottage Wreath stamps and Country Wreath dies, I immediately thought "holiday"!  As I started creating, that's what I made, a holiday wreath.

You can see the details of how I made this card here.  But then I wanted to use this set at my July Card Club, and thought "why not make it a summertime wreath?".  So I did:

Notice anything familiar?

Yeah...it's the same design I used for my Christmas card, but making it in yellows changed the entire feel!

This time I used one another of the Gingham Cottage patterned papers (same design, different color) along with a So Saffron and Mint Macaron wreath.  AND, I only used the dies to make the wreath and the bow instead of stamping them first, as I had done in the first card.

The lay-out is identical - Basic White card base, layer of Designer Paper with a Layering Circle cut out, Deckled Rectangle frame, wreath and greeting.

But it has such a different feel!

Using different colors and stamps/dies with similar lay-outs can increase your ability to create without causing brain-overload!  Pull out one of your favorite cards and try making it again with a new image or color - you'll love the results!

Cottage Wreaths Sneak Peek

Who doesn't love a nice, pretty wreath, especially around the holidays?

When I saw Cottage Wreaths and the Country Wreaths dies I knew I was going to have a little fun with them.  Look:

I'm not really ready for Christmas yet, but I loved the greeting (from another new set, Very Best Occasions), and decided to go for a holiday wreath.  It's a DistINKtive stamp, so inking it with just one color gives you the variation you see here:

After stamping the wreath in Soft Succulent, I cut it with the dies.  I also stamped and cut the bow.  And do you see that Deckled Rectangle frame?  Sitting on my desk - a left-over from another project, and it just looked right for this card.

The greeting was stamped directly on the Designer Paper - the Gingham Cottage paper has 48 sheets of marvelous plaids in many colors - just perfect for a year of card-making!

And do you see those little red dots in the holly?  Another new item - Pearlized Enamel Effects in Real Red (you get three colors in one package!).  Now you can add little enamel dots to anything you want, and  make them as small or as large as you want.

After I was done with the Christmas card, I began thinking about other holidays.  So how about this:

Using just the dies, I created a patriotic wreath for 4th of July.

Real Red strips were added to the card front to simulate a flag; the greeting, also from Very Best Occasions, was masked (the stamp says "endlessly grateful") and stamped in Pacific Point.

So there you have it!  Two wreaths, one stamped and one created just from the dies, for two holidays 6 month apart!  I love getting multiple uses from stamps and dies!  As I said, I'll be creating with this set all year long...
