Poppin' By

Have you seen this OnLine Exclusive bundle, Poppin' By?   Now those of you who know me know I don't usually fall for whimsical stamp sets.  I never seem to be able to find a use for them.  But every now and then...

And that time is NOW!  When I first saw this set I thought I'd pass.  But then I got to thinking, and saw a few samples, and it won me over.  Look:

EEK!  Too cute!  A glasses-wearing, popcorn bucket with shoes?  Oh yeah...I'm in!

This adorable set comes with the popcorn bucket stamp along with three popped corn stamps (with faces!) and a few greetings.  But it was the dies that really got me - those glasses!  The shoes!  And dies to cut popcorn!  But there's more - a filmstrip that can be added to make a great gift for the movie lover.  Just perfect!

I chose the Beautiful Bokeh designer paper for my card - doesn't it resemble popcorn?  And the Nested Essentials dies cut the white rectangle for the greeting.

I cut the popcorn with a die (that has an insert to add some extra texture) then sponged the pieces with Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry to add "butter".

This layout was inspired by an unknown demonstrator - I saw a photo of samples from the Stampin' UP! Achiever's trip to Disney World, and CASEd it, changing the background papers and the popcorn.

I've been playing with this set all day, and can't wait to show you my grandson's birthday card...but you'll have to wait until I've given it to him in two weeks.

In the meantime, enjoy this card and add Poppin' By to your Shopping List--you are sure to have a good time with it!

Sunrise Sailing Pyramid Card

Here's a card I saw on Rachel Tessman's blog.  It's a "pyramid" card, and I think you will understand the name as soon as you see it:

It's an interesting fold.  Three layers of "boxes" join to create the base, and it folds down to a flat card for mailing.

I wanted to use the Sunrise Sailing sailboat and chose the Country Woods designer paper for the background.

Here you can see the three boxes; the largest on the bottom starts with a piece of cardstock measuring 5-1/2" x 9".  The next measures 5-1/2" x 6", and the skinny one on top is 3" x 5-1/2".

A 5-3/8" x 5-3/8" square of designer paper is cut into 3/8" and 5/8" wide strips, alternating as you cut.

For the top piece I cut Basic White cardstock with the Textured Notes dies, sponged it with Balmy Blue ink and add the boat and clouds and birds (cut with the Sunrise Sailing Hybrid Embossing Folder).

I think I'll choose a smaller panel for the top next time, as this one obscures some of the beautiful DSP.  But I still like it, and think it would make a great masculine card.

Sunrise Sailing can be ordered through the OnLine Exclusives page.  I hope this will be around for awhile - it's the perfect summer bundle!

Pretty Florals Fun Fold Card

Today I have a fun-fold card, one that includes 24 pieces!  Yes, I dreamed this up for my card classes last week (and for my Cards-by-Mail) and then had to kick myself for creating a card with SO many pieces!

This is a photo I took as I was prepping my kits and was about half-way done with the die-cutting:

Each little pile consisted of 15 pieces; then I added in the card base, three pieces of designer paper, and a larger flower with leaves.  Whew!

And here is the finished project:

This is a pop-up card - the diamond in the center pops up when the card is opened:

It's really not difficult to create, but I got the idea from Tami White, and I'm including the link to the tutorial here.  She does a great job explaining how to put the card together.

Our cards used the beautiful Woven Textures Designer Paper.  There were three different patterns used for the 26 cards I had to make, so here is another one with a different background paper:

For this one, we stamped the flowers from Pretty Florals and cut them with the coordinating dies.  (As a Stampin' UP! demonstrator, I am not allowed to send stamped images to my Cards-by-Mail folks, so they got the die cut flowers in the first photo).

This is a very fun card to make and not hard at all!  I hope you'll give it a try!
