Rainbow Thanks

Do you ever see a technique that you know you could easily duplicate, but never do it?  "Block stamping" is one of those techniques for me.  I've seen dozens of examples, know just how to do it, yet I've never "gotten around" to doing it.

Until now.

Look at that rainbow background!

So how did I do it?  Pretty simple, actually.  However, I had forgotten the basics, and ended up with this:

Yeah, that's a permanently stained (I think, still working on it) acrylic block!  But it actually shows you the technique, with one exception - DON'T USE STAMPIN' BLENDS!

The real way to do this is to apply a dye-based ink directly to your block.  Once I figured out what I had done wrong (and gasped at my stained block 😧) I remembered this rule.  So starting again, I inked my NEW acrylic block with Stampin' Write markers, in rainbow order:  Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green, Misty Moonlight, Gorgeous Grape and Blackberry Bliss.  I spritzed a little water on it, watching the colors blend a bit, and stamped directly on my Whisper White cardstock.  (Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I first tried it on Watercolor paper, but the results were not as "smooth", as the water was absorbed and the colors didn't blend nicely.)

Then I got this:

So much better!

Just had to finish my card:

I stamped the umbrella and flowers on Daffodil Delight, punched out the umbrella, and snipped the flowers.

Simple card, fun technique (even with the blunder!).  Give it a try (but don't use Stampin' Blends unless you want a beautiful rainbow-colored acrylic block!). 😉
