Nailed It! Yes, I did!

Remember this card?

I used the new Nailed It stamp set with the coordinating Build It framelits dies.  It was a huge hit.

But today I'm taking it to the next level.  I really liked my "carpenter's apron", but my son's birthday is coming up, and I wanted to make his card an over-the-top one.

OK, are you ready to see it?  One that takes a masculine card to the next level?  I call this my "card in a (tool) box"...what do you think?

Evan loves everything "tool".  So when I first saw this set, I knew it was going to find a home in my craft room, and I also knew that I'd be creating something special with it for Evan.

I took the basic "card in a box" idea, but made it into a tool box.  It had to be able to fold flat for mailing.

This was NO easy task.  I had to figure out the measurements; my previous card-in-a-box template was for a square card.  But tool boxes are not square.  So back to the drawing board...or should I say "grid paper".   Yes, I sketched out what I wanted, and with a little help from the internet, figured out my measurements.  The cardstock was cut to 3-1/2" x 11".  I scored it at 1", 5", 6" and 10", then turned the paper and lightly scored it at 1-3/4".

The box is Soft Suede.  I then took another piece of Soft Suede and inked up my Hardwood stamp with Soft Suede ink.  Once stamped, I cut it into pieces to adhere to the face of my toolbox.

Then it was on to the tools.  Such fun to stamp them (on Chocolate Chip, Real Red and [retired] Brushed Silver cardstock) and then cut them out with the framelits.

I struggled the most with the name plate. I used a rotary alphabet stamp [also retired] on Copper Foil.  Of course the foil is slippery--took me about 6 tries to finally get the darn thing inked up with Archival Black ink!  But the nameplate is a die in the framelits, set--isn't it cute on the front of the tool box?

So what do you think?  Will my Mr. Fix It son like his card?  I think so...
