A "Mother-In-Law" Card

Have your heard the phrase "mother-in-law" card?  It's a card that doesn't have a lot of room for writing a message inside 😂

Well, I saw a template for a card on Lisa Curcio's blog and wanted to give it a try.  Take a look:

The unusual fold is that there is a strip down the center portion that is the actual part that opens the card:

Hence the reason for the name--there is not much room for a greeting.  But the card is so pretty, it's perfect for a little note to someone special.  Let's take a closer look:

The card base is just a quarter-piece of cardstock, 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".  There's a layer of Basic Black and then the beautiful Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper.  But before adhering that DSP layer, we need to add another piece of Basic Black, measuring 2" x 10-1/4", and scored at 5-1/8".  This makes the flipped up piece.

Then I added a different pattern of the same DSP, measuring 1-7/8" x 5".  And finally I added the decorating--two poppies cut from Watercolor paper that I had sprinkled with Pigment Sprinkles, and the over-lay piece cut from Real Red.  The leaves are Mossy Meadow, cut with the same Poppy Moments dies.

But wait!  There's more!

I also needed a birthday card for my son, so decided to create a masculine version of this card:

This time I used the Tropical Oasis DSP.  The card base is Early Espresso, with a layer of Soft Sea Foam.  Then the DSP (two patterns) and some palm trees, from Timeless Tropical.

I inked the palm fronds in Old Olive, and used a Soft Suede marker for the trunks.  Then I took a Shaded Spruce marker and "thumped" the fronds, creating a multi-color look for more depth.  The trees were then cut with the In The Tropics dies.

Lots of layering on this card:  a Whisper White rectangle cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies, some Braided Burlap Trim and a birthday wish stamped with the Label Me Bold stamps, in Soft Suede.  And finally that pineapple--the Tropical Oasis Trinkets are SO cute!

And finished off inside with a little pineapple, this time inked in Daffodil Delight and "thumped" with a Soft Suede marker.  ðŸ’—

And here are my two cards, side by side:

Which is your favorite?

Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper

The Peaceful Poppies suite of products is so beautiful, and the designer series paper is one of my favorite products in the suite.  Take a look:

At my Card Club this month, we used the paper to make a very simple, yet lovely, card:

The design on this sheet of DSP is perfect for creating a non-stamped card front.  It contains enough of the poppy flowers and background to make either 6 cards with a 4" wide panel or 8 cards with a 3" wide panel, as we did here.

Attendees also got to practice using a border punch, the Decorative Ribbon Border, to create a pretty, lacy strip along each side of the DSP.

The greeting, from Peaceful Moments, was stamped on Whisper White, cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies, and popped up on Dimensionals.

We finished the front with some retired sequins because I misplaced my Peaceful Poppies Sequins 😞, but the cards came out looking great anyway!

And inside:

We stamped one of the poppy images and colored it with Stampin' Blends.  What a nice way to complete a card!

The Peaceful Poppies Suite is now available in the January - June 2020 Mini Catalog.  I would be happy to provide you with a paper copy of the catalog; just contact me and let me know you want one.  In the meantime, you can check out the catalog online by clicking here.
