Marquee Messages meets Embossing Paste

A few weeks ago I shared my "card fail" using the new embossing paste and the brick mask.  (see it here and laugh!)
But I had made a second sheet of "bricks" and was trying to figure out what to do with it.  And then inspiration struck:

A movie marquee on the side of a building!  HA!

So yeah, I know...I guess I've lost it...my mind, that is.  But I actually think this is kinda cute; don't you?

Lots of dimension here; the entire "marquee" was cut out, leaving a space in the middle for the YOU ARE words (also fussy cut), and everything is popped up on Dimensionals.

Details:

• The bricks are done with Embossing Paste colored with Cajun Craze ink refill, and spread on Very Vanilla cardstock using the Pattern Party Decorative Mask.
• Marquee Messages was stamped twice; once in Night of Navy on Very Vanilla, and again (just the arrow part) on Daffodil Delight.  
• YOU ARE was stamped in Cajun Craze and colored (ombre style) with a Blender Pen
• Card base is Night of Navy with a mat of Cajun Craze.

Except for the cutting, this was a pretty easy card to make.

A Pumpkin Birthday

Today is my grandson, Jacob's, 4th birthday!  So when thinking about making him a special card, I happened upon an idea posted by another demo (thanks, Janet Wakeland!) using the September Paper Pumpkin ingredients.  Although her card was very different from my final version, I appreciated the sharing of ideas that got my juices flowing.

And here it is:

Yes, that's a test tube attached to the front of the card!  If you recall, last month's Paper Pumpkin contained 16 test tubes (along with a ton of other stuff) to make Halloween treats.  I put 12 of mine together for work buddies, but had a few sitting on my desk.  When I saw Jen's card, my brain couldn't "un-see" it, and thus, my card was born.

A mix of sets pulled this together; Marquee Messages worked well with Number of Years (and the matching framelits - Large Numbers).  I started by stamping in Pacific Point and Real Red; the number was stamped in Cucumber Crush and cut with the framelit.  Before adhering it, I ran my Whisper White card stock through my Big Shot with the Lucky Stars embossing folder.

Then it was time to attach the test tube filled with birthday candles (4 of them, of course!) in matching colors!

I adhered the Cucumber Crush strip to the white layer, and punched two holes, threading some Basic Black Bakers Twine through and creating a loop for the test tube.  Then I simply tied it in the back and adhered the whole thing to a Basic Black layer, and then to the Cucumber Crush card base.

It still needed something...

Of course!  A sprinkling of Crushed Curry stars, punched with the Confetti Stars Border Punch!  Perfect!  (and I added a few left over stars to the test tube, so it's almost like a "shaker card".

A fun card for my adorable grandson (and I heard from his mommy this morning that he loves his card with the candles!).  (heart)

To An Awesome Starbucks Barrista

Do you ever have one of those days?  Just nothing seems to be going exactly right?  And you start feeling down in the dumps?

Well I had one of those days last week.  Work was not going well (my REAL job, not my "stampin'" fun job) and I was tired.  Had a lot on my mind, and had been rushing back and forth between two of the buildings in which I work.

So when leaving one of them and heading back to my office, I made a quick detour through the Starbucks drive-through.  Ah, a hot chocolate would make everything better...

As I pulled into the driveway, I noticed Julie sitting on an overturned bucket on the sidewalk next to the drive-through.  Julie is the manager of this particular Starbucks--a wonderful, jovial, knows-everyone person--you know the type.  As I slowed to round the corner, she motioned to me to roll my window down.  That's when I noticed her head-set.

"Are you going to take my order out here?"  I asked.

"Sure am," Julie replied; "the mic is broken."  So the machine I talk in to when I give my order--that nameless "voice in a box"--wasn't working.  And here sat Julie, on a cool, windy morning in early October, perched on an upside-down bucket, wearing her head-set and taking orders to relay inside, so as to not delay the line.  Super!  I asked, wasn't she cold?

"Nah; someone gave me gloves!"  She smiled and held up her fingerless-gloved hands.  What a saint!

Anyway, my order taken, I thanked Julie and headed round the bend, and my hot, chocolaty drink was waiting at the window.

Somehow that speedy exchange totally turned my day around.  To see Julie sitting there on a bucket, wearing borrowed gloves, and cheerfully taking orders while the wind blew made me feel all warm and toasty inside.

So I decided to do something for Julie.  Take a look:

Funky colors, retro stamp set and heartfelt sentiment!  I knew it was just perfect for Julie!

The card base is Bermuda Bay.  The Peekaboo Peach striped Designer Series Paper and the Emerald Envy polka-dotted banner created a busy background for all the white-space of the stamp.

I stamped the marquee from Marquee Messages twice--once in Flirty Flamingo, and again in Peekaboo Peach, cutting the arrow and popping it up on Dimensionals.  A Flirty Flamingo Ruched Ribbon bow and a few Emerald Envy Enamel Shapes finished my bright card.

And of course, for a card as awesome and mixed up as this, I had to create my own envelope.  Matching Designer Series Paper in Emerald Envy and my Envelope Punch Board made it a snap!

I stopped in Starbucks the next day and dropped it off for Julie.  I hope it made her as happy as she made me!

Marquee Messages

As promised, here is the second of my May Card Club samples, using the soon-to-be available Marquee Messages.  I've had fun using this new stamp set, and decided to let the attendees in on the excitement.

Due to the large size of the main stamp, there is very little needed on the front of the card.  However, there WAS a lot of white space.  So we filled that by first embossing some lines around the edge of the card, using the Simply Scored Board.  Then the fun began!

We stamped the main image with Night of Navy ink.  Then everyone got to choose which colors they wanted to use for the arrow and the strip on the bottom--they also got to pick "YOU ARE Awesome" or "IT'S YOUR Birthday", depending on whether they needed a graduation or birthday card.  I chose a graduation card, using Cucumber Crush and Melon Mambo, and colored in my letters using a Blender Pen and Night of Navy ink.

I'm only sorry I didn't line up all the cards and take a picture--everyone's was different and wonderful!

This fun set will be available on June 1st, along with lots more new goodies--stamps, new ink colors and a fabulous selection of new Designer Series Papers.  Can't wait! 

A Sneak Peek for Mother's Day

OK, for the rest of you, I have a fun Mother's Day card and a sneak peek of a new Stampin' UP! set to be released June 1.  I received this great stamp set at the Stampin' UP! OnStage Live (another name for convention) in  April, and couldn't wait to start playing with it.  Are you ready to see what I did?

(my apologies for the quality of the photos; I took these at night in my kitchen, and didn't realize how fuzzy they looked.  Unfortunately the cards have been mailed, so I can't re-take the pics, but you get the idea)
I made two cards for my daughter and daughter-in-law, two of the most wonderful moms I know!  So they had to be special, right?

This new set, Marquee Messages, was a perfect way to express my feelings about how "awesome" they are!  And I also got a chance to experiment with some of the new In Colors for 2016-2018:  Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo!

I stamped the marquee image using Memento Black ink, once on Flirty Flamingo, again on Peekaboo Peach, and one last time in Mint Macaron (what a yummy combination!).  I also stamped the "You Are" on the top and "Awesome!" across the banner. Then I paper-snipped the three main pieces and reassembled them on the front of my card (after running a piece of Whisper White through my Big Shot with the Brick Wall Embossing Folder).

I love the little sentiment on the bottom...isn't that cute?


Of course, no marquee is complete without a ton of lights, right?  So I added 39 Rhinestone Basic Jewels (yes, I counted each one) to both of the cards, and I also added some Dazzling Diamonds to the stars on the banners.

The top layer is popped up on Dimensionals to give it a bit of depth.  The card base is Whisper White Thick cardstock.
