A Baby Bear Birthday

Yes, it's time for the new Occasions Catalog release and today I'm going to showcase a card that's been sitting in pieces on my desk for a few weeks.  Finally got around to putting it together, so here you go:

You may have remembered when I did this card last month.  I played a lot with the background colors, finally settling on this; but one iteration had me using Pool Party in the rectangle.  I didn't like it for Christmas, but it had come out so nicely that I kept it in my "box of shattered dreams" (where I keep pieces of cards that never make it to the final version).  I pulled it out when I was playing with Baby Bear, thinking I would make a baby card.

But...I didn't have any babies to celebrate.  And since January is a BIG birthday month in my family, I decided Baby Bear needed to have some balloons to celebrate!

So here are the deets:

Baby Bear was stamped in Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso (I like to go from darkest to lightest colors, as I think it's easier to line up the three layers); I then fussy cut him out.

My card base is Pool Party, cut to 5" x 10" and scored in the middle to make a 5" x 5" card.  A thin layer of Night of Navy borders my Whisper White rectangle with the Pool Party sponged center.  Then Baby Bear is adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The sentiment (from Balloon Adventures) was stamped in Night of Navy ink, and the balloons were cut using the new Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies; I cut them three times--Perfect Plum, Pool Party and Night of Navy, and then layered them and added a few of the dots and stripes in different colors.

The balloons are also on Dimensionals, and I drew in the strings using a Smoky Slate Stampin' Write Marker.

Time for a Sneak Peek

Well it's just about Christmas, but I've run out of Christmas cards, so I'm going to give you a "present"--a sneak peek of some goodies to come.

The Occasions Mini Catalog goes live on January 4th; you can purchase from the Holiday catalog until then (don't miss the fabulous Year End Clearance sale!) and then we'll transition to the new one.  So here's a little peek of something to come:

This wonderful birthday card is full of surprises!  And just about everything is brand new!    Let's take a closer look and I'll explain...

Let's start with the popped-up panel--this comes from the Balloon Pop-up Thinlits Dies.  I cut it out with Peek-a-Boo Peach, then began to layer on the color.  The top balloon was cut using another of the framelits and Watermelon Wonder card stock, and the striped balloons are Pool Party.  I also used the coordinating Balloon Bouquet Punch for the under-layer of Watermelon Wonder.

And the banner was stamped with Pool Party ink, then the sentiment was stamped with Watermelon Wonder ink.  I added some little stars from the In Color Enamel Shapes.  And see that bow?  Also part of the framelit set--I love Stampin' UP!'s coordination!

The whole panel is popped up over two coordinating pieces of  Designer Series Paper--Party Animal, using Foam Adhesive Strips, and then this card became a shaker card (adding a Window Sheet behind the popped up panel).  The Sprinkles Embellishments were perfect, along with a few of the Fancy Frost Sequins (Holiday catalog).

And of course, this card has to have a coordinating envelope--more of the DSP on the flap pulls it all together.

Sneak Peek! Shhh...

So are you ready for a little peak at what's to come?

I recently attended Stampin' UP!'s On Stage event, a mini-convention where demonstrators from all over the west coast gathered to catch a glimpse of new products to be released in January.  We got to see samples, play with new items and (best of all!) got a copy of Occasions, the new catalog to be released on January 4!  Does it get any better than that?  Yes!  I also got to pre-order a sample of some of the new products so I can play with them and show you what's coming!  Yippee!

So here's my first creation:

Balloon Adventures will be a hit for those of us who send birthday cards--and who of us doesn't?

This great set coordinates with the previously released Balloon Bouquet Punch, but also has a set of Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies!  Whoo hoo!

Now at On Stage, I got to experiment with some of the products from the Party Animal Suite--here is what we made:

The Party Animal Designer Series Paper is loads of fun in bright colors.  But look at this:

See that little party hat?  That is one of the Party Animal Embellishments (there is also a red balloon), little enamel hats to hang on your cards.  So cute!

But wait!  There's more; look at what happens when you open this card:

The Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits create the perfect pop up card to celebrate a special occasion!

So when I was creating my card at home, I cut the same balloon pop up piece, but chose to eliminate the sides, and use it as a focal piece on the front of my card:

Some more Party Animal designer series paper, but instead of stamping my balloons, I used the thinlits and cut out a striped and polka-dotted balloon.  Then I stamped the Pumpkin Pie balloon with the Balloon Adventures set, along with the banner and sentiment, and I was good to go!

I popped up the whole diecut piece with Foam Adhesive Strips.

I can't wait to play some more--this is a really great set; the suite features the stamps, thinlits, designer series paper and embellishments, as well as washi tape and new Emerald Envy ribbon!
