Another "What's On the Desk?"

My Ink Masters demonstrator team challenged each other to a "what's on the desk?" card-making contest, so of course I had to participate!  I looked around my desk and saw lots of rainbow pieces from the Brilliant Rainbows dies (left overs from a class I just held), but something else had just been added - a die cut from the Potted Succulents dies.

A customer had contacted me about her die; she was having difficulty getting it cut out all the way.  So I took a few pieces of cardstock and experimented so I could give her ideas on how to get it to cut better.  But then I had a Granny Apple Green, a Melon Mambo and a Daffodil Delight cut out sitting on my desk. What to do?

How about this?

Since I had all the pieces from the dies, I decided to combine them!  I adhered the Granny Apple Green die cut to a piece of Basic Black.  And then I merely filled in the pieces (tedious!) right into the spaces.  But I love the way it came out.  AND I happened to have a Basic Black Stitched Rectangle negative space (I had used the rectangle and had the "frame" left) sitting on my desk too, so...

I popped it up over the flowers.

The greeting is from Friends are Like Seashells, stamped in Tuxedo Black on Granny Apple Green (I used my Stamparatus, as I wanted the letters to be very dark - stamped it three times).

I love what can be made from the scraps on my desk!

Have you tried it yet?

More Than Chocolate?

 Who needs a Valentine?

Yes, it's that time of year, and we're getting ready to celebrate a little love.  I've put out the Very Cherry Jelly Belly's, I've got the red "love" sign on the table in the entry, and I've hung the Welcome sign made with hearts...but I need to have a few paper valentines too.  So:

Now anyone who knows me knows that I have a weakness for chocolate.  So when I first saw Nothing's Better Than I just had to have it.  And I've been having fun with it ever since.  But I usually use the "coffee", "cocktails" or "cookies", even though chocolate is my favorite!  Well, today is the day!  Time for a little chocolate love!

I started by cutting the letters from the patterned paper I was planning to use (from the Sweet Talk Designer Series Paper pack).  These were mounted on a Stitched Rectangle embossed with the Gingham embossing folder.  SWEET!

I lifted the "Chocolate" die cut with tiny slivers of Mini Dimensionals - tedious, but I love the way it looks!

I may just have to send this Valentine to myself - a little self love!  Right?

Sale-a-Bration is still happening, but we're headed into the last month!  Every $50 purchase gets you a FREE product from the Sale-a-Bration brochure.  Don't miss out!

Amazing Eclipse

Show of hands - Who remembers the "eclipse" technique?

I thought about it when playing with some of my new patterned papers, and decided it was time to give it a go.

For those who have not heard of this, it's where you cut an image (in this case, a word) from the patterned paper, and then fit the image back into the space where it was cut from, but lifting it on Dimensionals.  Take a look:

Can you see the words?  "You are amazing"

I used the new Amazing Thanks dies along with the FREE Daffodil Afternoon paper, cutting the words from the paper (I used the "word bubbles" - the outlines of the actual words first) leaving the outline holes in the paper.

I then used the detailed word along with the pieces I had cut out, laying the detailed die on top of the cut piece (now with some Foam Adhesive Sheets on the back) and running it through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss a second time.  This gave me the detailed word on foam, and I was able to place the words back in the holes of the patterned piece of paper.

But wait!  There's more!  See those little daffodil centers?  I used the Daffodil dies to make the "cups" and popped them up over the printed image of the paper.  Cute little detail!

Now you can see the raised flowers and the words.

Such a fun and impressive card!

Give the Eclipse Technique a try!

Amazingly Layered

Sometimes you just have to play to find something that works.

Can you believe that I FORGOT to order the Artfully Composed patterned paper?  Duh!  I was placing an order, which included the Artfully Layered stamp set and the Tropical Layers dies, and somehow, I neglected to add the coordinating paper.  So...

Ingenuity to the rescue.  I just made my own.  I stamped the various leaf images using Mango Melody, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple Green inks all over a page of Basic White cardstock.  then I cut it down to make four 4" x 5-1/4" card front layers.

But...I didn't really like what I had.  CASEing to the rescue!  LeeAnn Greff made a card using strips of a stamped piece (you can see it here) and it got me thinking about how I could resuscitate my (now wasted) stamped cardstock.  So I cut up my pieces and here is the results:

Isn't that bright and fun?

And look at that layered word, "thanks".  That is two of the dies in the Amazing Thanks die set, available in the January - June 2022 Mini Catalog.  This set of 8 dies (four words and four "shadows") are a great size - here I used the word as the focal point on my card.

The stamped strips are each 1" x 3-1/4", and they are mounted on an embossed Mango Melody piece measuring 3-3/4" x 5".

I'm so glad I was able to save my stamped background, and I love how this card came out!

And now I'm waiting for my designer paper to arrive, and I'll have fun playing with the stamps all over again!
