Charlotte's Four!

My granddaughter is four years old today!

Charlotte came for a visit in July, and fell in love with a card I had made using the Rainbow Glimmer Paper and the Sunflower dies.  You can see it here.

In fact she loved it so much, she had to make one for her mama:

She asked me to use the glimmer paper for her birthday card, so:

I did!  Lots of it!

I cut squares of rainbows using the Stitched Shapes dies, and then cut the letters with the Playful Alphabet dies.   These are SO fun!

I chose to use the negative spaces in the squares, and layered them on the card front using Liquid Glue and Dimensionals.  Then I cut some flowers using the Small Bloom punch and added some (retired) black glimmer paper circles for the centers.

This necessitated an oversized card, so I also had to create my own envelope.  So glad I still have my Envelope Punch Board!

Happy Birthday Charlotte!

Happy Wishes

Time for another Merry Monday!  At this rate, I'll be done with my holiday cards way before Thanksgiving!  That's NEVER happened...but without much to do I figured I might as well get a jump on it.

So:

I LOVE Plaid Tidings patterned paper!  So much so that I've been using it for my Cards by Mail this month.  But this particular pattern did not get chosen for the club, so I wanted to give it a little love.

Last week, fellow demo Cindee Wilkinson showed a technique she called the "quadrangle".  It's where you take a 6" x 6" piece of designer paper and cut it into four 5-sided pieces.  Interesting, right?  If you want to give it a go, take your 6" x 6" square and make a little mark at 1-1/2" on all four sides.

Then place your paper in your trimmer with one mark on the cutting line, and the mark on the opposite side also on the cutting line, like so:
                                                                           ðŸ”»

                                                                             ðŸ”º

And cut:

Now place your cut (long) edge along the top of the trimmer:

with your mark on the cutting line.                  ðŸ”º

And cut:

Repeat with the other half and you will have 4 quadrangles, all the same size:

And that's how I made the plaid quadrangle for today's card.

I matted it with Shaded Spruce and mounted it to a piece of Whisper White, embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder:

The trees are from Tree Angle, and are cut with the Stitched Triangles dies.

Another fun look for the holidays!

Have you started your holiday cards yet?  What's your favorite stamp set and colors to use this year?

Rainbow of Circles

OK, how long does it usually take you to jump on a crafting bandwagon?  Me?  Sometimes I'm a bit slow...

I saw one of these Layering Circles cards about a month ago on a Demonstrator Facebook page.  I was definitely impressed, and wondered how it was done.  Then I didn't give it another thought until about a week ago.

I was sitting in my craft room wondering what to create, and I remembered that card.  It was done in blues, but I had another idea:

OMG!  The colors are so striking against the black background!  L.O.V.E.!!!

So how are these cards made?  First I picked out my colors, and for some reason, rainbow "spoke" to me.  So I grabbed Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Pacific Point and Gorgeous Grape.

Then I started cutting.  I made a large and a small circle in each color, but I had to play a little with the "inside" colors.  For those I used progressively smaller circles.  You end up with 12 circles in all, and then I cut them in half.

I ran some Basic Black through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine (it's available NOW to demonstrators!) using the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder, and then started layering my circles.  For those above the white sentiment line, I added each successively smaller circle to the left side of the one below it; for those below the line, I added them to the right.

Leaving a small gap in the center, I adhered my layered circles so that the right edge of the red circle on the top half met with the left edge of the red circle on the lower half - make sense?

And then there's that greeting - from the retired Beautiful You, I masked the "brighter",  inked up the stamp with Tuxedo Black ink, then removed my mask and colored the word with Stampin' Write Markers.  And yes...I tried very hard to match up the colors of the sentiment to the rainbow circles...I'm a little crazy that way!  ðŸ˜¯

The best part of making this card came when I realized I had the same number of circles ready for a second card!  Yippee!

I've been playing with this technique since last week, so expect to see more of this type of card soon!

Don't you love it?
