Seaside Wishes Meets "What's On My Desk"

This card started as a "what's on the desk" card.  This is where I raid my "island of misfit pieces" and make a card with them.  I had the Basic White arch die cut (Garden Meadow dies) along with the Pool Party "sea urchin" (is that what this is?) and started to play:

I decided something needed to be under the sea urchin, and chose to create three sand dollars with the Seaside Wishes Hybrid Embossing folder.  After cutting/embossing (at the same time!) them with Basic Beige cardstock, I dirtied them up with a little sponging and Crumb Cake ink.  They look so real!

It was easy to put it all together with a piece of Country Woods designer paper in the background.  The arch was stamped with a greeting from the Garden Meadow stamp set, and then I cut a little sea grass with the Seaside Wishes dies and some Lost Lagoon cardstock.

When it was done I liked it so much that I used it for my August Card Club and everyone got a chance to make it.  And all because of a few scraps on my desk.  I guess I should never throw them out!  (Just tell that to my husband...😏).

Scenic Papers

Have you ever used a 6"x 6" piece of Designer Series Paper with a beautiful scene, but had to cut it to fit your card, and missed out on using the entire scene?

Well here's a way to capture the beauty of the full panel (well almost!) and use it on your card:

But wait!  You said you wanted the entire sheet of DSP, right?  OK, hold on, just a sec.

Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" (standard card size).  Score it at 2-1/8" and       4-1/4".

Trim your pretty DSP (a 6" x 6" sheet) to 5-1/4" x 6" (be sure to trim ONLY the bottom OR the top of the scenic paper), and then cut it into 2" strips.

Adhere the left-most 2" piece of the DSP to the cardstock on the 2-1/8" x 5-1/2" strip.  Then:

Aha!  Here is the rest!  Add your two other pieces of DSP to the panels as shown.  This will allow you to see the whole scene!  Beautiful!

The card will be folded in half, and then the front panel (the piece scored at 2-1/8") is folded BACK over the front, creating the first panel that you see.

Add a piece of Basic White (or a lighter piece of coordinating cardstock) cut to 2" x 5-1/4" to the last panel, as shown.  Here is where you can write a greeting, add a die-cut, or stamp an image.

To write to your recipient, you can add a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Basic White cardstock to the back of your card.

Check back later this week for an alternative card using the same dimensions.

And have fun creating a gorgeous scenic card!

Meandering Garden

Last week I was invited to "teach" a class for a local Garden Club.  I knew there would be 15 women in attendance, none of them stampers (although many, I was told, are "crafty").  So I wanted to come up with a card that would be easy for new stampers, but beautiful and reflective of the group of attendees (avid gardeners).  I think I hit the mark:

I chose the Meandering Meadow Designer Series Paper to use as the main focal point. This beautiful paper, currently available via the OnLine Exclusives, has 48 sheets of 6" x 6" papers, 12 different - and gorgeous! - designs, all featuring gardens/meadows.  I had chosen 18 pages and cut them to 4" x 5-1/4", along with a 1-1/4" x 5-1/4" strip of the same sheet.

Each attendee selected their favorite design (and happily there were not arguments over them! 😂) and adhered them to a Thick Very Vanilla card base.

We then used Dimensionals to add the top layer, a piece of Thick Very Vanilla embossed with the Exposed Brick embossing folder and cut with the large "arched window" die from the Garden Meadows set.

We finished off the card with either dragonflies or birds, from the Adhesive-backed Dragonflies and Birds embellishment pack.  Easy peasy!

I had given everyone the option of adding a greeting; I included two different sizes of labels (cut with Stylish Shapes dies), but there was only one woman who wanted a sentiment.  Everyone else was enamored with their card just the way it is shown here.

For the inside, we attached the coordinating strip:

They loved the way it tied the inside and outside of their cards together!

The ladies were pleased, and my class information sign-up sheet was full!  I think the class was a success!

The Garden Meadow suite is currently available, but, as with all OnLine Exclusives, will only be around while supplies last.  If you love this as much as I do, act fast!  I'd hate for you to miss out!
