A Book and a Gift Card

For the Books is a lovely little stamp set, kinda hidden on page 52 of the January - April 2025 Mini Catalog.  I only noticed it because one of the dies - the BIG book - caught my attention.  And we are a family of readers, so I did a double-take and picked up the bundle.

I was trying to think of a card I could make focusing on the large book from the die, and here's what I came up with:

I have to admit...I needed to get a little creative with this one.  I wanted to use the book, but didn't know where I was going with it.  My mind was racing around greetings I could use (in my opinion, the stamp set is a little limited in the greetings category, although all the books are fun!), and I perused my stash of stamps until I came up with one from Crafting with You - "Life is better when you're crafting".  But I could change that...

Mini Alphabet dies to the rescue!  And since I needed to cut out the word "reading", and since the Mini Alphabet die is just one big die with ALL the letters, I thought, how about incorporating the entire alphabet?  And that's what I did.

Somehow I got ALL the letters to fit (although, yes, Q-R-S is a little tight 😡) but I was able to place them even with the Radiating Stitches die-cut in the middle.

Although you won't believe me from these photos, the colors are Lost Lagoon and Soft Sea Foam (for the letters).  And it's such a pretty color combo!  Then I added the book cut with the For the Books dies in Pretty Peacock.

I am totally in love with that tassel! One of the dies in the set; so cute!

But wait!  There's more:

I turned this card into a gift card holder.  Of course when I actually gift it, there will be a Barnes and Noble gift card inside (not a Starbucks - but hey, it was the only used up gift card I had 😁).

I can't wait to gift this one...someone's going to have fun picking out their next read!

For the Books, Round 2

Last week I showed you card I made with a new set called For the Books.  See it here.

Today is my husband's birthday, and I originally bought this bundle (stamps and dies) because of him.  Jim is an avid reader (always has been), and he loves volunteering at our local library.  So when I needed to make his birthday card, I reached for this set:

I thought it would be fun to make a card that looks like a room in the house.  I stamped the piles of books, colored them with Stampin' Blends, and fussy-cut them, stacking them on a little shelf.

This large book is cut from a die in the bundle.  It cuts and embossed the details all at the same time.  And the "pages" (the white at the bottom of the book) is another die - so clever!  I added a candle (from the die set, Sent Silhouettes) because it's a birthday card.  And check out that fun tassel - created from one of the dies.

I had to fudge a little on the greeting - the stamp says "this one's for the books", but I masked out some of the words, substituting "another year" from a Paper Pumpkin stamp.

Happy Birthday, Jim!

And watch for For the Books, coming January 7th, with the release of the January - April 2025 Mini Catalog!

A Book Tree

The new January - April 2025 Mini Catalog will be live before we know it, and I've just received my pre-order of fun stamps, dies, gorgeous paper and accessories.  But when I saw a card posted by Jo Weeden Melbourne using one of the new stamps I got, For the Books, I knew I just had to recreate it for my book club members:

How's that for using a stamp set in a different way?  Who would have thought that a stack of books could make a cute Christmas tree?

I stamped the books, masking the ones on the bottom and re-stamping them side by side.  The star at the top is from Decorative Trees (on the retiring list - get it before it's gone!).  Then I colored them all with Blends.

The greeting is from Reindeer Fun (another set soon to be retired) using Shy Shamrock ink.

And that shiny paper?  There is a reason I keep stuff in my stash long after it's no longer available - and now you are seeing why; this was from a pack of Red and Green Foil sheets, and I can't even tell you when it was in a catalog, it's been that long!  But it was the perfect "foil" (no pun intended) for a layer on my card.

The January - April 2025 Mini Catalog will be ready for your orders soon.  Need a catalog?  Just let me know.  I'd love to get one into your hands!
