Dual Paradise Cards

Last week I mentioned my grandson's Make-a-Wish trip to Hawaii after sharing a card I made to thank the charity for the care they took to give Nate an experience of a lifetime.

Today I have two "tropical" thank you cards that I made for my daughter to send to Make-a-Wish and the corporation who hosted the family at a luau prior to their trip.  She asked for "something tropical" and "something special" - I knew just what products to use.

When Oceanfront made an appearance in the last catalog, and Paradise Palms was a current set, I made a similar card, so I pulled out these sets again (Paradise Palms is retired, but I still love the Palms dies).

The first job was to create a sunset background, and this proved to be challenging.  I wanted to have a sun setting, reflecting on the ocean, and ended up going through 3 iterations before satisfying myself with the results!  I used Washi tape to mask off where my water would be, and then used Blending Brushes with multiple colors to create the sky.  Once done, I pulled off the Washi tape and added a little color where the sun would be setting.

Then it was time to stamp my ocean and beach.

The ocean was stamped in Azure Afternoon, and Crumb Cake was used for the sand.  But the images in Oceanfront are not large enough to cover the entire card front - I needed to create a frame.

Basic Black was cut to size and then I used one of the Stitched Rectangle dies to cut an opening.  I also used a retired embossing folder to add a little texture.

The palm trees were cut with the Palms dies, and placed coming out of the frame at the bottom corners.

And then there's the bottom of the card.  The greeting is from Charming Sentiments, stamped in Versamark on Basic Black and heat-embossed in gold.  The Sentiment Silhouette dies cut these words perfectly!

The shells are from Season of Chic, and cut with the Chic dies.

And did you notice the little pieces of beach glass on the sand?  I was so sad when this embellishment retired!  But I bought up a few extra packages to have for the "just in case".

I am so very impressed with the Make-a-Wish group.  If you are so inclined, please consider making a donation to this organization - they truly make a difference in the lives of families who experience some of life's most difficult moments.

A Fun-fold Birthday

What could be more fun that a star-spangled birthday card?

How about a star-studded, FUN FOLD birthday card?

You may remember this fold - I did a few some weeks ago, and I had one left on my desk.  So I put the pieces together and completed it with some stars.

Start with a piece of cardstock (Sweet Sorbet here) measuring 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", and score at 4-1/4".  From the center score line, cut on a diagonal to the bottom corner of the front of the card.

The front flap measures 3" x 8", scored at 4".  The back side is tucked under the inside layer, then folds over the front diagonal.  As the card opens, it begins to reveal the inside message:

Who wouldn't enjoy opening this card?

Lots of specials going on right now:

Gingham for Baby

Who else thinks that gingham is the perfect pattern for babies?  ✋

So when I needed a baby card, I pulled out my lovely Country Gingham Designer Series Paper and went to work.

Eek!  So sweet!  I almost have sugar overload!!

I started by stacking three colors of the gingham (Balmy Blue, Mint Macaron and Petal Pink) so that the patterns were matched up.  Then I cut them (still stacked) to 4" x 5-1/4".  I measured down 2-3/4" (halfway) and cut from the top right corner to my half-way point on the left side; then I cut from the lower right corner to the half-way point on the left.  this gave me triangular-shaped pieces that I was able to put together, matching up the pattern.

I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic White cardstock, and added my triangles to cover it--this gave me a layer for my card front.

I wanted to use this greeting from Charming Sentiments, but I needed a layer to make it pop - a 1" piece of Mint Macaron (to match the card base) with a 3/4" piece of Balmy Blue did the trick.  If I was making this for a girl, I would have exchanged the Balmy Blue for Petal Pink.

Proof that the Country Bouquet stamps and punch are good for more than Valentines!  Wrapped with a tiny bow of Balmy Blue and White Variegated Ribbon, these hearts make a sweet focal point!

The January - April 2023 Mini Catalog will only be around for another few weeks, and once the Retiring List comes out next week, these products will fly off the shelves.  So be sure to pick up your favorites soon!
