Another October Birthday

Continuing on my October "Special Occasions" journey, here's a card I made for my granddaughter, who turned 9 on Saturday:

Sophia wanted new boots for her birthday.  Since she lives a day's drive away from me, I decided to send her money so she can pick out her own.  Money isn't all that exciting to a 9-year old, so I wanted to make her a fun card.

This balloon card was cut from a Hero Arts balloon framelit.  I cut one from Whisper White card stock, and then cut a card base.  Using the same framelit on a piece of folded Whisper White, I let the top of the framelit hang over the fold--when I cut it out, it left a folded-over area for the card base.  Then I just glued the original balloon on top to make the card.

The "Happy" is from Celebrate Today, and was stamped in Pumpkin Pie, Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo and Pacific Point.  The cupcake and candles were from a retired set with matching punches.  And my letters are also from a retired alphabet set.

Inside I cut another balloon and adhered the bottom and half-way up the two sides to make a pocket for the money.  "Boot Money" was stamped using Labeler Alphabet.

And of course this needed it's own envelope:

I had some red Envelope Paper left from last Christmas; my Envelope Punch Board did the trick.

Happy Birthday, Sophia!

A New Little Someone

Do you ever open your mouth and start to talk before your brain catches up with you?  Find yourself offering to help someone, but as you hear yourself talking, wonder why?

I was picking up a fax in my office the other day, and my administrative assistant was at the copier.  She looked a little sheepish and then said, "You're crafty.  Can you tell me how easy it would be to make this card?" and showed me a copy (THAT SHE WAS MAKING ON THE OFFICE COPIER!) of a very simple, cute baby card.  I don't have too many reasons to make baby cards any more.  So as I was telling her how to make it, I suddenly heard myself asking her if she wanted me to make a baby card for her.  Wait...What?  Oh, well, go with the flow...

She was delighted, so I told her to give me a note (mainly so I wouldn't forget once I got home), and she brings me a half sheet of paper with instructions.  "Use gray, or green, or any neutral color; maybe clouds, or an animal (elephant, bear or giraffe), and the names of the couple are ___ and ___, signed 'best wishes' " and her name.  I actually wondered if she wanted me to sign the inside for her?

Well, she's nice and I know she means well, so I got busy today and started to create.  The card sample she showed me had balloons (heart-shaped and normal round ones) with "Congrats" along the bottom.  I used both of those ideas and came up with this:

This is quite a large card:  5" x 8".  (I checked my Envelope Punch Board to ensure I would be able to make an envelope that big--easy peasy!  I can go even larger!).

I started by stamping the balloons from Celebrate Today, using Pool Party, So Saffron, Mint Macaron, Pear Pizzazz and Blushing Bride.  I used the coordinating pattern stamps with Island Indigo (stamped off once), Crushed Curry and Old Olive.  Then I cut them all out with the matching Balloon Framelits.

The background paper is a FREE Sale-a-Bration item--Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper.  One side is marbled, and the other side is a soft, watercolor wash of color--in this case a mix of Pool Party and Mint Macaron.  It's layered on Basic Gray, and the card base is Pool Party.

The balloons were carefully placed on the card front and I cut out letters from a retired alphabet Bigz die.  I finished by stamping "Congrats" from Bravo, using Archival Basic Gray ink; this was hand-cut with my paper snips, and adhered using Dimensionals.

A matching envelope using Neutrals Envelope Paper was (in keeping with the theme) stamped with the little balloon from Beautiful Ride.

I really like this card.  But wait!  There's more!  This was actually the second card I made for my colleague.  Come back tomorrow and see the other one!

Celebrate Today!

Yes, I'm celebrating the fact that the new Stampin' UP! Occasions Catalog is now live and ready to improve your stampin' supplies.
2015-OccasionsCatalog

And I'm celebrating the fact that with every $50 you spend jazzing up your supplies, you get to choose a FREE sumthin' from the Sale-A-Bration Catalog.

But I'm also going to share a card I made with the new Celebrate Today stamp set:

Details:  I used the coordinating Balloon Framelits (squeal!) to cut out three balloons.  The top one is Coastal Cabana, run through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and (added bonus!) a little banner of flags, also from the Celebrate Today set.  AND no paper snipping necessary--the framelits has a matching one for this stamp!  Woo Hoo!
Now I must admit that I cheated slightly...the repeating stamp on the balloon in the forground is a stamp from the January Paper Pumpkin kit.  But I wanted to have a bunch of words, and that stamp was the easiest to use (it's got a whole square of repeating Happy Birthdays).

The darker balloon is Bermuda Bay, embossed with Stars embossing folder (sigh--did NOT carry over to the new catalog).  The balloons are adhered to a piece of the FREE Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper, Best Year Ever.  Then the third balloon is popped up with Dimensionals.

"Happy" is stamped with Bermuda Bay ink; the three balloons are tied together with some Coastal Cabana Thick Bakers Twine, and a little flag (stamped with Gifts of Kindness) is added to the twine.

I love this set, and am sure it will be a top seller for all those birthdays, babies and special occasions you want to celebrate!
